Q1: Q1 Section A Complete both questions in this section in the BLUE answer booklet You are using an AISI 4340 (Fe-0.4wt% C+ alloying additions) steel to produce forged/machined ground anchors for a large mobile phone mast. (a) The steel is supplied in the normalised condition. What fraction of the steel do you expect to be austenite, martensite and pearlite? Justify each answer. (5 marks) (b) Upon examination you find the steel is mostly bainite and martensite with a small amount of proeutectoid ferrite. Determine the range of possible cooling rates this material might have experienced? Would the presence of these microconstituents cause you any concern considering the steel will be hot-forged? (5 marks) (c) The steel needs to be processed in the following manner: (i) Hot forge to the basic shape. (ii) Substantial machining to create threads. (iii) Heat treatment and cooling to create a 100% martensite microstructure. (iv) Tempering to modify the toughness. Sketch a time-temperature history that you would use for this process. Focus on specify- ing the temperatures and the required cooling rates for each stage. Clearly indicate where you have had to use your judgement to estimate a value. (5 marks) (d) You decide that the forging should be a dual-phase steel consisting of 50% ferrite and 50% martensite in order to improve the damage resistance of the anchor. What single change could be made to the above process to produce this desired microstructure? Fully explain your reasoning. Q1: TECH 6239 Project Assignment - Spring 2024.pdf (145.253 KB) Develop a process flow chart for your hypothetical foundry and determine the manpower, machines, and material flow based on your anticipated daily production rate. Use a variety of presentation tools (i.e. flow charts, tables, etc.) to demonstrate initial estimates. I demonstrate initial estimates. I would strongly suggest reviewing the topic either through the library or Internet. Most operation management books have good, basic examples. ||| O

Q1: Theory of Machines Assignment 1_24 Mathematics Wire frame The figure shows a mechanism which consists of two loops. The mechanism is driven by link 2 which is attached to the inertial frame through a revolute joint at O. There are revolute joints at A, B, C and D. Link 5 is attached to a vertical slider through a revolute joint at E. The vertical distance between O and E is S. Joint D is midway between B and C The dimensions, in mm are: L2 15 L3 150 L4 60 L5 75 d 60 e 20 f 40 Link 2 makes an angle of 100° to the horizontal for the position shown. Use a vector q = 04 05 to define the coordinate of the mechanism. 1. Use the loop closure method to derive the constraint equations for the horizontal and vertical components of the position. Append a fifth constraint equation which specifies the angle 02 to be 100°. 2. Differentiate the constraint equations to give the Jacobian matrix 3. Give a vector of x-calculations and y-calculations that can be used in a plot frame for drawing a wire frame of the mechanism. The values must be able to draw the mechanism as a single graph without lifting the ‘pen'. Write an Octave functions to: 1. Calculate the Jacobian 2. Use the Newton Raphson method to solve for the co-ordinate to an accuracy of 10-6. 3. Calculate the value of the @(g) functions which form the constraint equations. 4. Plot the wire frame of the mechanism. Write an Octave script that will draw the wire frame of the mechanism in the position shown using the functions defined. Results must be presented in SI units. The functions must be stored in separate m-files so they can be called from other scripts. TO2 S 03 Submit: 1. A pdf of your mathematics 10 2. All the necessary m-files 10 3. A pdf containing the output of your script 5 B 3 d 4 A D 2 0 e 5 C S 1 E f Figure: Mechanism (Not to Scale)See Answer

The topic should center on a current, debatable social or political issue. In other words, your topic should concern a social, economic, cultural, or environmental problem we face as a global society today. Choose wisely, as this topic will also be the topic for your persuasive speech, and it may be chosen as a topic for a group presentation. Research: Your speech must be based on information obtained from at least three (3) current. reputable sources. Only one of your three sources may be a website. You must identify each source when you deliver your speech by providing an oral citation. You must also identify each source in your speech outline where appropriate. A full bibliographic citation of each source must be provided on a works cited page that you will submit along with the rest of your speech materials. An adequate source citation in a bibliography includes the name of the publication, its author, the date it was published, and the volume, issue and page numbers where your source can be found. Citations for Internet sources should include the name of the webpage or author and the specific web address. Your references page must conform to APA. MLA, or Chicago guidelines.¹See Answer
