Individual Final Video Presentation Checkpoint #3 Submit the Panopto Video Link Objectives CLO1: Apply protocols for basic laboratory techniques to completion, troubleshooting, and analysis of an experiment. CLO2: Analyze the rationale for and application of standard laboratory methods in biotechnology applications. CLO3: Examine the applications of equipment and techniques central to biotechnology research. CLO4: Assess the use of statistical analysis and data interpretation to design experiments in biotechnology research. CLO5: Evaluate the influence of standard laboratory methodology on the development of advanced techniques in biotechnology research. CLO6: Describe recent advances in experimental design, analytical methodology, and instrumentation that drive innovation in biotechnology research. Introduction This assignment aims to highlight the relationship between the development of technologies used in the biotechnology industry and their core experimental techniques. The following menu will provide the guidelines and examples to complete this signature assessment for the Emerging Applications in Biotechnology course. Guidelines Final Video Presentation General Guidelines Use the following document to understand what is required for each one of the checkpoints. M07: Final Presentation Instructions Please use the following links for specific instructions to help you complete what is needed for these tasks. Each checkpoint will provide you with a detailed rubric and a link to upload your deliverables: M10: Checkpoint #1: Technique Selection - Final Presentation M11B: Checkpoint #2: Experimental Survey Slides - Final Presentation M12: Checkpoint #3: Final Video Presentation (Signature Assessment) Deliverables for the Final Presentation DUE AT THE END OF MODULE 12 Each student must submit:1. Experimental technique survey (6 slides)Slide 1: Title slideSlide 2: Name your selected technique and why you selected it. What interested you about the selected technique? Slide 3: Describe the rational basis for your selected experimental technique (CLO2). What physical, chemical, or biological principles govern? How does your selected technique work? Slide 4: Describe the basic procedure behind your selected experimental technique (CLO1). What steps and tools are needed to complete the experiment? What are the proper controls and basic assumptions? Slide 5: Describe the process of validating your selected experimental technique (CLO4). What data is generated from your technique that allows you to determine whether it was successful? How do you determine success? Slide 6: Summarize a primary research article that utilizes your selected technique (CLO3). What conclusions were the authors able to reach based on applying the selected technique? What additional knowledge was gained from using the technique in the article? 2. Company information summary (4 slides, plus bibliography)Slide 7: Provide background on the company. When was the company founded? What is the focus of the company? (a certain disease, a specific treatment modality?) How large is the company? Slide 8: Describe the product the company is developing. What is unique about the company’s approach? What are the potential applications? Who is the population utilizing this technology? Slide 9: Describe how the product utilizes your selected experimental technique (CLO5). How is the discussed technique incorporated into or used by the highlighted product? What critical feature changes or modifications are made for the product (if any)? Slide 10: Describe the results (up-to-date) of using the product (CLO6). What results have been generated using the product, and how do they indicate the effectiveness of the technology? How much more work is likely needed for the product to be commercialized? Slide 11+: References slide (you may use multiple slides if needed) See the reference slide guidelines below Incorporate any feedback and review the content AS YOU DEVELOP YOUR SLIDES, YOU MUST CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: Who is your audience? Consider the area of knowledge and who the experts are, and then write to inform them. Defining the purpose. This is why, what, when, how, and who. Ensure each slide has a clear objective: to present data, illustrate a concept, or summarize findings. Avoid including extraneous information. Consider the structure of your slides. Limit each slide to one main idea or concept. Avoid cluttering with too much text or too many images. Format your slides consistently. Apply a uniform font style, size, and color scheme throughout your presentation. Each slide should have a descriptive title that conveys the main point. Label figures, graphs, and tables clearly. Use clear, relevant images to highlight the content. Select images that are informative and not cluttered. Ensure the image resolution and features are suitable for reading by your audience. Ensure visuals are clear, relevant, and appropriately labeled. Avoid overly complex graphs—simplify where possible and highlight key trends or data points. Emphasize key information. Use emphasis (e.g., bold text, color) to highlight important points or findings. Avoid excessive use of colors; use them purposefully to enhance understanding. Provide references. Cite sources for data and images used on each slide. Each slide should have a clear conclusion. Provide the bottom line for the information presented. Review the considerations for Checkpoint #3 QUICK GUIDE FOR PRIMARY AND REVIEW RESEARCH RESOURCES Research Sources APA FORMAT Consistent APA formatting should be used for any/all references, particularly for journal articles: Formatting for APA citations: EasyBib Guides APA FormatLinks to an external site. How to cite journal articles in APA format: Easybib Citation Guides APA Format - How to cite a journal APALinks to an external site. ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES Formatting Guidelines for the references slide(s): Divide the references into sections based on slide number: References should be listed in alphabetical order Use asterisks (*) to denote any references from which images were pulled (be sure that all pictures are cited with full references) JHU LIBRARY GUIDES Use the following link to JHU guidelines for citations and references. Guides at JHU Library - APALinks to an external site. Use References Guidelines - Checkpoints #2 & #3 Checkpoint #3: Final Video Presentation Narrating the SlidesAs you narrate your slides, you must consider several things. Make sure your script and slides match. Ensure that your script corresponds directly with each slide’s content. Refer to specific elements (graphs, images, bullet points) as you speak. Make effective use of transitions. Smoothly transition between slides to maintain narrative flow and coherence. Use clear and concise language. Keep your script concise—each point should be communicated clearly and efficiently. Use simple, direct language to convey complex ideas. Pay attention to pacing. Plan the pace of your delivery to avoid rushing through slides or lingering too long on any single slide. Practice and refine as much as possible. Practice your script multiple times to refine your delivery and ensure smoothness. Seek feedback from peers or mentors to identify areas for improvement. Criteria and Rubrics Rubrics are provided to guide the students through all the steps to complete this Final Presentation. Please refer to the checkpoint submission pages to see detailed rubrics.
