Healthcare institutions are responsible for the quality of care that is provided ...

Healthcare institutions are responsible for the quality of care that is provided within their settings. Institutions need to ensure that the healthcare professionals they employ have a strong working knowledge of ethics and law to be competent and successful. A qualified professional knows how to provide safe, quality healthcare to a population of culturally diverse consumers. To address the needs of all patients, institutions can adopt models such as shared decision making, where patients are encouraged to share their preferences and needs with providers. On a daily basis, healthcare institutions must ensure that ethical dilemmas involving patients and providers are addressed. Under certain circumstances, healthcare institutions and the professionals employed by the institutions can be sued by patients for negligence or malpractice. For the Final Project of this course, you will analyze a court decision in which a hospital was found vicariously liable on a theory of apparent authority for professional malpractice in the form of negligence of an independent contractor. You will focus on facts pertaining to the medical standard of care, breach of care, and causation, and explain how they were applied to law. You will then use the facts of the case to identify an ethics issue and determine an ethical theory that would help provide a safe, quality healthcare experience for the patient. Next, you will apply a clinician–patient shared decision-making model to describe how the ethics issue could be resolved. You will also include a discussion about possible violations of the code of ethics in your given field. Lastly, you will augment or vary the facts of the case to create a hypothetical scenario that changes the outcome so that the hospital is no longer vicariously liable for professional malpractice in the form of negligence of an independent contractor. The Final Project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three and Five. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven. In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes: Analyze the impact of healthcare-related policy and legislature with regard to culturally diverse healthcare consumers and providers Determine ethical theories and decision-making models appropriate for healthcare providers to use for providing a safe, quality healthcare experience for the patient Analyze the role of professional regulation, the standard of care, and codes of ethics in determining healthcare providers' wide-ranging accountability to self, their profession, their patients, and the public Prompt In this project, you will analyze a court case involving medical malpractice in the form of negligence. Using your analysis of the case, you will address the facts pertaining to the medical standard of care, breach of care, and causation. Further, you will use the facts from the original case to identify an ethics issue, determine an ethical theory that would help provide a safe and quality healthcare experience for the patient, apply a clinician–patient shared decision-making model, and augment or vary the facts of the case to change the outcome. You will analyze the following case for your Final Project: Popovich v. Allina Health System Specifically, your case study must address the following critical elements: Introduction: Summarize the selected case, including information on the stakeholders involved, the problem, and the time period in which the incident occurred. Medical Malpractice Component: In this section, you will evaluate the case to address the legal components, the malpractice policies similar to this case, and the standard of care given to the patient and how it was breached. Then, you will draw connections to how this malpractice case impacted stakeholders and healthcare consumers outside of the case. Explain the key legal components of the case, including the nature of the issue and the rules that applied. Determine relevant malpractice policies in place for addressing the issues within the case. Analyze the malpractice case for the standard of care provided to the victim. Be sure to apply what the law states about standard of care to support whether or not it was breached in the case. Analyze how the malpractice case would impact healthcare consumers from different cultural backgrounds. For example, would this case have a similar impact on a person from a culture different from the one in the case? How could this incident change the views of these healthcare consumers toward the healthcare system? Assess the malpractice case for accountability based on its severity. To what extent was the healthcare provider held accountable? Ethical Component: In this section, you will evaluate the case to identify the specific ethical issues and determine ethical theories and shared decision- making models that would help resolve the issue and provide a safe, quality healthcare experience. Then, you will propose and defend ethical guidelines for healthcare providers to follow in order to avoid future incidents. Describe the ethical issues that led to the malpractice case and explain why the issues are credited with causing the incident. Support your response with research and relevant examples from the case. Describe an ethical theory that would help resolve the issue and provide a safe, quality healthcare experience for the patient. Support your response with research and relevant examples from the case. Select a physician–patient shared decision-making model and explain how it would provide a safe, quality healthcare experience for the patient. Propose ethical guidelines that would have helped prevent the incident and would help the organization prevent future incidents. Defend how your proposed ethical guidelines will hold healthcare providers accountable to themselves, their profession, their patients, and the public. Recommendations: In this section, you will utilize the knowledge you gained from your malpractice and ethical analyses to recommend and defend strategies that would help improve medical practices and avoid future liability. Recommend preventative strategies the healthcare provider could implement to avoid liability in the future. Defend how your recommended preventative strategies would assist the healthcare provider in avoiding liability and provide a safe, quality healthcare experience for the patient. Milestones Milestone One: Malpractice Case In Module Three, you will submit a 2- to 3-page paper. You will complete part of your analysis of the malpractice case. Using this analysis of the case, you will address the facts pertaining to the medical standard of care, breach of care, and causation. This milestone will be graded with the Milestone One Rubric. Milestone Two: Ethical Components of the Malpractice Case In Module Five, you will submit 2- to 3-page paper. You will use the facts from the original case to identify an ethics issue, determine an ethical theory that would help provide a safe and quality healthcare experience for the patient, apply a clinician–patient shared decision-making model, and augment or vary the facts of the case to change the outcome This milestone will be graded with the Milestone Two Rubric. Final Submission: Malpractice In Module Seven, you will submit your final project. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course.

Then post what you thought was the most important concept(s), method(s), term(s), and/or any other thing that you felt was worthy of your understanding in each assigned textbook chapter.Your initial post should be based upon the assigned reading for the week, so the textbook should be a source listed in your reference section and cited within the body of the text. Other sources are not required but feel free to use them if they aid in your discussion. Also, provide a graduate-level response to each of the following questions: Video Exercise: Research Design at LSPMA Lake-Snell-Perry-Mermin Associates (LSPMA) is a decision research firm that works on behalf of clients to determine what different segments of the population believe and feel about issues of interest to the clients. A third of LSPMA's work is for political candidates, another third is work for progressive issues organizations, and the remaining third is work for foundations and major institutions. LSPMA uses telephone polls, online polls, and in-person and online focus groups to collect data and to identify population (or audience) segments. Audience segmentation enables an LSPMA client to identify groups of people who are supportive of its issue(s) or cause(s), groups who can be converted to being supportive, and groups who will never be supportive. A client can then target its resources toward connecting with and persuading those segments that are likely to be the most receptive to the client's message. The research enables the dividing of the audience into segments; once segments are identified, they are tracked in future decision research. Although audience segmentation can be useful, it can make the population seem more divided than it actually is.VIDEO DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Why do political organizations need marketing research conducted by LSPMA? What is the relationship between marketing research conducted by LSPMA and identifying the needs and wants of specific market segments? Why would a business rely on a marketing research firm that is heavily into political polling?

Hide Assignment Information Instructions Module 5 Assignment Instructions: ...

Hide Assignment Information Instructions Module 5 Assignment Instructions: TOWS and SFAS The TOWS matrix is the most important step to move into the formulation of strategies. It is based on the SFAS table and requires thinking on strategies that for example uses strengths to take advantage of opportunities or strengths to minimize threats. You have already completed the SFAS table from BUS485A. Use that table to create the TOWS. The template for TOWS Matrix is TemplateSA-EXH7-TOWS.docx available in Course Resources and the attachments here. The TOWS matrix supports the writing of Section V. DUE BY THE END OF THE DAY ON SATURDAY OF THIS WEEK. TOWS IS WORTH 9 % OF THE GRADE or 90 POINTS. Review of how the SFAS table was built for BUS485A The SFAS (Strategic Factors Analysis Summary) table is Exhibit 3 of your SA. Complete the SFAS as described on pages 171-173 in the textbook. Focus on identifying the 10 most important strategic factors. Be sure to keep your SWOT tags on each SF. Revise the weights to add to 1.0 and the ratings as needed. You must complete the Comments Column in the table. Repeat or revise your comments for each strategic factor from the previous EFAS and IFAS tables. Be sure to explain WHY it is a strategic factor; a quantified estimate of the potential impact (QPI) in the future of the SF; how you assigned the weight; and how you assigned the rating; and for Internal SF identify the Core Competencies (CC) and Distinctive Competencies (DC). Use the same quantitative analysis that you did for the EFAS and IFAS to estimate and quantify the potential impacts in the future; the impact on the firm’s future survival; and how well or how badly the firm is handling the SF right now. Use the SFAS Template provided in Module 5. These are just templates with words of reference. Use your own thinking and words. How to Create a TOWS Matrix A good explanation to transition from SFAS to TOWS is in reading TOWS Matrix Handout.docx in Module 5 PPT readings. Using the SFAS you submitted for BUS485A, create a 2x2 matrix for the TOWS matrix as it is shown in TemplateSA-EXH7-TOWS.docx. Make sure you have at least 2 strategies in each cell of the 2x2 matrix.
