Choose 3 social media posts pertaining to Asian Americans/Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders (they can pertain to specific ethnic groups within the larger AANHPI group). Examples of social media posts (you can opt to write about these or choose your own): https://www.instagram.com/p/CEjvmwPDCna/Links to an external site. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cve7jnLAyau/?img_index=1Links to an external site. https://www.instagram.com/p/C7C6-m0P_pxLinks to an external site. For each social media post, choose one of the authors/artists assigned in this Module (Ono and Pham, Mansfield-Richardson, Balance, Wong, Conley), and interpret the post’s meaning, arguments, or social impact using that author’s/artist’s ideas. You can use the same author(s) to discuss more than one social media post--for example, you can use the Ono and Pham to explain all three social media posts that you choose--but if you cite an author or authors more than once, you must write about a different part of their text for every social media post. For each of your write-ups, put the link to the social media post you are writing about at the top, and make clear which author you are using to interpret the post. Example: https://www.instagram.com/p/C7C6-m0P_pxLinks to an external site. This is an excerpt of comedian Ronny Chieng’s stand-up routine that was posted on Instagram. I am going to interpret the meaning of this excerpt through Ono and Pham’s argument that many Asian Americans in media are simultaneously depicted as doctors (i.e., highly educated, high-achieving professionals) and as threatening or undermining to the American way of life (i.e., as part of "the yellow peril"). Each of your interpretive write-ups will be worth up to 4 points: up to 1 point for your choice of a social media post relating to AANHPI people. up to 3 points for how well/how clearly you interpret the meaning, arguments, or social impact of the post using the ideas of one of the assigned authors.
Discussion Points: Finding images to include in your work is often a very challenging and time consuming task. It is not uncommon for graphic designers and other artists to spend hours, or even longer, to find the right image. Search the Internet or your own personal files for an image of an animal/s or outdoors scenery that can be legally used by you and your classmates. Image Source What does Photoshop do to photos? How do you clean up an image in Photoshop? In your response, tell the class how you found an image and why you selected the image. What did you do to add and manipulate the image in Adobe Photoshop? Embed or attach the image to your discussion post as an example for the class to appreciate. You must respond to two of your fellow classmates. In your response, comment on their image and critique their work (be positive!). Share what you liked about their work and your ideas of what else could be done with the image. If you suggest something be changed, provide steps on how to do it.
Class, I appreciate your participation in this discussion. For this discussion, create an original post addressing the topic(s) below. Continue to follow your classmates' posts for the remainder of the week and respond to two or more of your classmates. Your follow-up posts may add additional insights to a classmate's opinions or may challenge posted opinions. Use examples from the readings, or from your own research to support your views as appropriate. Be sure to read the follow-up posts to your own posts and reply to any questions or requests for clarification. By the way, include the name of the person's post you are replying to. Thanks! Choose one shot from Moonlight, include the time code, and analyze choices made in mise en scène and/or cinematography using at least one formal term from the reading outlined at the end of the lecture video. Interpret the meaning of the shot based on your understanding of this term. Make sure to show your understanding of the full film when composing your answer.
You will identify small group communication strategies you have learned through the term in a set of group process scenarios. You can choose to work with the film Apollo 13 or a set of provided meeting videos. For your analysis, select three major content areas from the course to apply to the scenarios and explain the communication behavior of the group members. Examples would include cohesion, conflict management, group roles, decision-making techniques, listening, identity, and leading meetings. Possible approach: Reflect on the course as a whole, reviewing the text chapters for key content areas. Then watch the movie or video scenarios. Pick three content areas that connect to various scenes to help explain the small group interaction. Then write the paper (3.5 - 5 pages). Note: this is a highly integrative assignment (worth 10% of your grade), and an opportunity for you to demonstrate what you have learned throughout the term. Possible organization: Introduce the paper and your choice (film or video scenarios) Overview the three content areas you will use Present each major scene and your analysis of the communication Or Present each content area and provide communication examples from the scenes/scenarios Conclude the paper Option 1: The film Apollo 13 is filled with small group scenarios. Due to the crisis situation, many group meetings are ad hoc and may seem informal. Consider the scenes of the three astronauts in the capsule when they are interacting as a group and also the scenes of the groups that form to problem-solve (for example: the return strategy, the oxygen problem, and the power in the capsule). Analyze multiple scenes from the film where the focus is small group communication. Option 2: Watch the meeting clips below. All are small group formal meetings within an organizational setting. The context for the first clip is unique - separate from the other clips. The last four are all within the same organization. Analyze content from at least three of the five.
complete 1 page HANDS-ON ACTIVITYHANDS-ON ACTIVITY Apollo Residence Network Design Apollo is a luxury residence hall that will serve honor students at your university. We described the residence in Hands-On Activities at the end of Chapters 7 and 8. The university has recognized that work is going virtual, with more and more organizations building virtual teams with members drawn from different parts of the organization who work together from different cities, instead of meeting face-to-face. It has joined together with five universities across the United States and Canada (located in Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, and Toronto) to form a consortium of universities that will build virtual team experiences into their programs. The universities have decided to start with their honors programs, and each has created a required course that involves its students working with students at the other universities to complete a major project. The students will use collaboration software such as email, chat, Google Docs, Skype, and WebEx to provide text, audio, and video communication. These tools can be used over the Internet, but to ensure that there are no technical problems, the universities have decided to build a separate private WAN that connects the six honors residences on each university campus (in the five cities listed, plus your university).

Persuasive Speaking Outline Prepare and deliver a 5-7 minute extemporaneous speech in which you make an argument related to the topic you chose for your informative speech. You must attempt to persuade your classmates to take up or support a cause related to this topic. For example, if you informed your classmates about the history of the automobile in your informative speech, you could then argue for a law to be passed that would raise the speed limit to 80 miles per hour on California’s highways in your persuasive speech. Alternatively, if informed your classmates about a nonprofit organization that you support in your informative speech, you could then attempt to persuade your classmates to volunteer with or donate to that organization in your persuasive speech. You are required to prepare and submit two types of outlines for your speech on Canvas before class begins on the first day of persuasive speech deliveries, F, 11/15: Prompt: Purpose: This is a simplified version of your working outline, designed to assist you during your actual speech delivery. Format: Use keywords, abbreviations, and short phrases instead of full sentences. This outline should be more concise to help you easily reference key points while speaking. Content: Include the main points and subpoints of your speech, but omit detailed sentences and explanations. Citations: Include brief in-text citations where necessary. At least two scholarly journal articles should be cited. References: Provide a reference page at the end, listing all sources cited, formatted in APA or MLA style. The same scholarly journal articles cited in the text should be cited on the reference page as well. I have dropped a file named "why should people play soccer" which will be used to write my speaking outline. It should just be a condensed outline. However, I have also attached an OLD copy of my INFORMATIVE speech speaking outline, to give you an idea of how my professor wants a speaking outline. BTW the informative and persuasive speeches are different !!! THIS IS A PERSUASSIVE SPEECH NOW!!! Please let me know if you have any questions!
