Week 1 Question An important part of your final report is the Introduction, where you will describe the background and need for your project and introduce the project you have designed to address the need.Consult the Field Experience Guidelines document for more information about what is required for this Introduction section. In addition, search the literature for a project similar to your capstone project and study how the authors presented this section. Model your Introduction from this publication and the requirements in the Field Experience Guidelines. If you have previously completed this work in MPH/680, take time this week to refine and finalize your Introduction section and the slide you will use to present this information during your capstone presentation. Describe, at a high level, the project to be implemented and expected outcomes. Outline other data and/or evidence that justify the need for this project. Format your citations and references according to APA guidelines (APA Style 7th edition) Submit your assignment and the journal article(s) after which you modeled your Background and Need section. You should consult the Field Experience Guidelines document for examples of how to write your methods, as well as consult journal articles and other publications reporting on similar projects (as you did for Week 1 and the Introduction section). It may be helpful to incorporate course materials from MPH/680 related to logic models and stated implementation/evaluation plans. In your summary: Describe assessment procedures or activities that were used during project implementation. Explain research strategies or approaches that were used for the capstone project. Outline data and/or evidence that justify the need for this health project or initiative. Describe the metrics collected. Explain trends demonstrated in the data. Describe the results achieved. Look at the template first! Needs to be done like on the template that you use in xcel. Sometimes, one of the problems that students face in reading more complicated texts is that they can’t quickly and correctly classify the words they are reading. This is a very important skill to have when trying to make sense of a text. Your Vokabelarbeitwill give you a special opportunity to practice this skill. You will take the first 50 new words that you have to look up during your reading, translate them and classify them according to the word class to which they belong. I will give you an Excel template to use for this purpose. This will count for 10% of the grade. Some links to readings, also I included files. In this reflection, you will be exploring: 1. The first is a study of efforts to design programming that is linguistically and culturally responsive and proven to prevent language shift (additive policies) but in conflict with federal policies affecting language learners and that institutionalize language shift (subtractive policies) : "These programs highlight the benefits of “additive” or enrichment approaches to language education, and stand in contrast to “subtractive” programs aimed at eradicating or replacing non-English mother tongues. " The second is a high school teacher's reflection on designing and teaching a unit called "Language and Power"--what these mean and how students respond to understanding language policies and their interactions with privileged languages and groups of people. Please write a 3-4 page reflection on these two articles, including how they may have affected your own thinking as a future ESL professional. Include 1. the cultural and political pressures on language education policies; 2. how language education policy can be at odds with research findings from classrooms and communities regarding best language teaching models and practices as well as student achievement. Be sure to make specific references to the readings through paraphrasing and quoting. We use APA style in education but I'm happy with either APA or MLA (just don't mix the two). You can get help at the OWL Purdue (Links to an external site.) and in the SXU Learning Center. Please don't ask them, "Could you proofread my paper?" though. They aren't a laundry service. If you're working on a final draft, ask for their help in reviewing the draft with you.
