Description The video you will view (see below) is an opening scene from the movie "Jerry Maguire." In this scene, the character played by Tom Cruise is having doubts about the ethical issues in the sports representation business. In an impulsive moment, he decides to write a new mission statement for his company. In this document, Jerry Maguire argues that the priority of the company should be more on relationships with the athletes they represent, and less concern for the money and financial gains. When he enters the office the next day, his reception from fellow employees is applause, but he is soon fired by his supervisor for writing and distributing the new mission statement. How could he have used power and conflict resolution differently? In the attempt to exercise leadership, did he seem to experience strong feelings of vulnerability? Assignment: WRITE A CASE ANALYSIS IN WHICH YOU RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS. How did his attempt at leadership and creating the new mission statement create conflict with his supervisor? How was the "focus on people, less on money" priority not compatible with the values of the company and most of the sports representative who worked there? Discuss the following statement. Visions, missions, and strategies must align with the leadership and culture of an organization. If you were in Jerry Maguire's position, how would you have attempted to create the changes he desired? How would you have managed the potential conflicts that could result from a new mission in the company? What is the analysis of power in this example?

Description For maximum points you will need to write a short summary of the article, a short summary of the related chapter in the textbook, and you own analysis of how the article relates to the concepts learned in the book. I suggest using a standard 3-5 paragraph structure: Opening paragraph, body paragraph(s) discussing the news article and the book chapter and a closing paragraph. Current event grading rubric: 1 point for choosing a current and relevant article, 1 point for your article summary, 1 point for your chapter summary, 2 points for your analysis of how the chapter relates to the article. A current event is a news story that has been published, in print or online, that has a theme related to politics. Your current event is meant to be practice for your exam essay writing, therefore, be organized and use the news story and the chapter material to analyze your thoughts. It will be important to follow the grading rubric below. You may use ANY news source for your current event, but you MUST copy and paste the link at the bottom of your response so that I can read it to confirm facts. this is the link for the book-https://openstax.org/books/american-government-3e/...

What other news on the world stage was happening that day and did it receive as much attention? Part II. Who benefits and who loses from “eroding confidence in journalism and news (Higdon and Huff, 2019, p. 113). Where would you go to find a credible source to substantiate the information (AP Newswire, BBC, The Guardian, Poynter Institute, the Annenberg Foundation, or World Health Organization, etc.) Would the remedies that Sinan Aral suggests at the end of his video How We Can Protect Truth in the Age of Misinformation work? One to two pages with in-text citations and references required. Suggest watching videos Another option: During the recent election, we have had family members or friends perhaps fall into the conspiracy-theory black hole. If that was the case, how would you change the dynamic given what you know now about having conversations that matter. Watch How to Talk Your Uncle Out of QAnon and another recommended video in our weekly lesson. What approach would you take or maybe did take? Perhaps you would find another resource source that deals with cult behaviors and how to rectify political indoctrination. You can add other resources. One-two pages with in-text citations and references required.
Description This Discussion Post #4 and classmate response is due Monday, April 29th by 11:59pm. GENDER: According to Chapter 11's discussion on gender, women and men have very different cultural expectations when it comes to nonverbal communication. Some of these expectations are manifested as follows: women may have to meet higher attractiveness standards to be seen as competent or credible compared to men; as Amy Cuddy indicates in her TedTalk, her women students tend to be the ones shrinking in on themselves while the men students tend to spread out and take up more space, so too in the business world at large; as we've established in our discussions on facial behavior, there's more of a smile imperative for women than for men; and finally, women's self-concept seems to promote the sharing of only positive feelings publicly. Students in previous classes have contended that this dichotomy is overblown. Things have changed! As posited in the Chapter 11 ppt, though it seems the divide between men's and women's behavior expectations has narrowed, I think societal bias still exists for women to play the "supportive" role and men to play the " assertive" role. QUESTION #1: Consider the nonverbal expectations placed on you growing up; were you expected to be "supportive" or "assertive" because you were born male or female? What were these NONVERBAL expectations placed on you? How did these expectations change as you got older, how not? What are the burdens for both women and men living under such expectations? WORKPLACE: Gender influences also follow us into the workplace. Your book points out that though we like to think we are all equal, we actually know that that's not the case. Just think about who has more legitimate/reward power in a supervisor-subordinate relationship. Because "the dominant or higher status person can control the nonverbal codes to assure they remain the more powerful…communication between supervisor and subordinate will be influenced in a negative way" (pp. 248-249). The greater the status differential between supervisor and subordinate, the less effective the communication. Therefore, reducing the status differential can have positive effects. One way to do this is to increase liking and trust between supervisors and subordinates through the use of nonverbal immediacy. (I told you the idea of "immediacy" cues would return in our discussion). Your text mentions as subordinates, we want supervisors who are: sensitive, warm, accepting, responsive, and "immediate." Remember immediacy means being present in the relationship—"the degree of perceived physical or psychological closeness between two people" (p. 263). QUESTION #2: In light of the behaviors subordinates want to see from their supervisors, how might these expectations be met NONVERBALLY by a supervisor? (i.e. what could they do to appear more sensitive, warm, etc.). How might gender impact nonverbal choices by the supervisor? What nonverbal behaviors might be seen as taboo or lead to problems if misinterpreted?
