Based on this week's discussion and Voices readings, write a reflection on how the colonial experience differed depending on your race, gender, and class. Who are the privileged and who are the disadvantaged people? Note: It is interesting to see how this changes (and doesn't) for people as we move through American history. Some people's lives mattered more than others, right? As Professor Foner points out in our readings, this will contribute to who is considered an American. As people continue to come from different places, we will struggle with this idea.

Current Event Discussion: Module 4 Module 4: Cage, Credit, and Collections The student(s) assigned to Current Event Module 4 are required to post the link to the article and their synopsis Module 4: Overview Introduction The cage is the heart of any casino operation. Ultimately all cash flows through the casino cage. It is critical to have strong cash/chip handling skills, accountability, and documentation of all transactions processed with the casino cage. In addition, the cage is a source of guest service as even non-gamblers will often seek financial services unrelated to gaming. Maintaining sufficient cash on hand to comply with minimum bankroll requirements is a critical operational function provided by the cage. Similar to consumer credit, documentation and authorization are required to establish a casino credit line. If payment is made timely, the licensee never has to establish collection procedures. As is often the case, the timely payment does not occur and the licensee must impose steps to collect funds. As debt is determined to be uncollectible, the licensee may post a bad debt reserve or ultimately, write off the balance. This module will walk through cage operations and the cash flow required, issuance and extension of casino credit and the collection process. Learning objectives After completing this module, you should be able to: Explain the cash flow and controls to and from the cashier, including count rooms, vault, and main bank. Describe the importance of proper controls for casino credit. Properly account for casino credit. Properly account for bad debt reserve. Read/view Read chapters 10-11 in the textbook Read chapter 12, "Casino Receivables" pages 349-352 Read "Casino: Cage Operations - The Backbone of a Casino" Read "Auditing Casino Credit" Read" AR & Bad Debt Expense" Read "Casinos burned by gamblers who skip out on markers" Discuss Post a response and communicate with your classmates on this week's forum: Discussion: Module #4 Post a response and communicate with your classmates about this week's current event: Current Event Discussion: Module 4 Current Event Discussion: Module 4 Module 4: Cage, Credit, and Collections The student(s) assigned to Current Event Module 4 are required to post the link to the article and their synopsis by Sunday night at midnight at the beginning of the week it will be discussed. I know my time for the previous post expired but i needed this asap. I spoke with my Chair today and the corrections are needed by the lasted Friday 4/12. Not much needed for the proposal draft but to change the font and ensuring everything aligns. The primary pupose for this post is to complete the checklist because we need to get both it and the draft to the 2nd Chair for review. I'm uploading the last draft you completed and the last updated checklist.  I am trying to get approved by the end of this quarter to start the next level of the Project Study. Everything is  pretty time sensitive now. Please assist asap. Below are the recommendations for the draft and checklist. Thansk!  Hello Marcia, I am finishing up your paper and tweaking as I go along, but it appears you did not submit an updated “checklist.” I’d like to get feedback from Dr. Patterson on this draft, but we need a checklist asap please. Thanks!  ALSO, in the draft you submitted, the body of the paper was size 11 font but many headings were size 12 font. Please change your entire paper to size 12 (twelve) font, and THEN assign page numbers on the doc study checklist, please. Kindly,  J. Crosby, Ed.D. Senior Contributing Faculty ~ Doctoral Programs

This term, you will spend 6-10 hours participating in a community-based or democracy-focused activity. You may choose to: Join an organization or campaign that advocates for a community or issue that you care about Volunteer for an event or activity on campus or in the community Design your own action or activity Here are a few resources you can use to find local organizations and events: Hands on Greater PortlandLinks to an external site. has a searchable clearinghouse of local events and volunteer opportunities for organizations in the Portland metro area. You can search for opportunities by issue, time commitment, and location. They list both ongoing and one-time volunteer opportunities. Some activities allow group registration. Portland State ConnectLinks to an external site. is a database of students groups and on-campus events. You can search for organizations or activities. The Basic Needs Hub at PSU also has a list of on and off-campus volunteer activities. PSU's Student Community Engagement Center is another campus resources that provides opportunities to get involved. You can also search for local organizations that are working on issues that you care about. Organizational websites often list volunteer opportunities or provide contact information for volunteer coordinators. You may volunteer individually, or you can pair up with one or more students from our class(es) and get involved as a group. Some of you may find it difficult to carve out time to participate with an organization or volunteer for an event. If you are in that situation, you can also create your own volunteer activity that you can complete on your own schedule. Here are a few examples of possible activities: Write a letter (like your Eloquent Letter from last term) to one or more of your representatives about an issue you care about. Send that letter. Email or call your representatives about an issue. Develop a script you will use to convey your points. Attend (in-person or remotely) public meetings. You can attend ASPSU (student government) or Board of Trustee meetings on campus. You could go to city or county government meetings. Attend a candidate’s forum or an educational speaker. Testify at a public meeting. Create a poster or ‘zine (self-published magazine) that advocates for a particular cause or shares information or new perspectives. Distribute your work. Create a short podcast about an issue and post it online. Organize an event. Start a petition, collect signatures, and send it. Organize a group in your workplace, neighborhood, etc. You will complete three Democracy in Action assignments this term. In your Proposal, you will outline your plans for this project. Your Issue Brief will examine the problem or issue that your group or action is addressing. Your Democracy in Action Reflection will describe what you did and consider how your actions contributed to the democratic process. In addition to these three assignments, you will also be asked to share your experiences during class or mentor session Write a short paragraph identifying the issue or organization that you chose to work on. Why is this issue important to you? What experience do you have with this issue? Why did you choose this particular event, organization or activity? Write a second paragraph that outlines your plans for the term. What group, activity, or event will you participate in? What is your timeline for this action? What do you need to do to prepare for this event or activity? What will you need to accomplish by each date in your timeline?
