Week 8 Discussion 1 I do not support the use of grading on the curve because it is unfair and provides a fierce competition among the students which does not depict their performance. Grading on a curve is a procedure of altering students’ results so that a specific proportion of them gets better or worse results than they ought to based on their performance. This approach can unfairly penalize students who perform well, but not well enough to be at the top of the curve, and it can reward those who perform better than their peers but may still not fully grasp the subject matter (Jephcote et al., 2021). Furthermore, grading on a curve promotes rivalries between students and students stop learning but instead strive to achieve a higher grade than their peers. Rather, I think that the grading system of the class should be an absolute one that depicts how well each student has grasped the content of the course. This way, the students can be evaluated based on their potential and not on the competitiveness with the other students. It encourages a competitive spirit where students are challenged to do their best not against the other students in the class (Howitz et al., 2020). Also, using absolute scale of grading helps the students to know their performance level and thus work on their performance rather than working to beat others.

The film “And the Band Played On” portrays the early years of the AIDS epide ...

The film “And the Band Played On” portrays the early years of the AIDS epidemic in the United States. In spite of opposition from politicians and medical professionals, Dr. Don Francis advocates for the discovery of AIDS in the movie (Andrylbitencourt, 2014). In an effort to understand more about the illness and look into the spread, he joins the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where he eventually receives an AIDS diagnosis. The social stigma attached to AIDS is one of the main issues that has impeded the fight against the illness. Stigma has a negative effect on health outcomes, including worse quality of life overall, missed visits, poor medication adherence, and greater melancholy. Back then, people's views on homosexuality were more conservative than they are today. Whenever AIDS has won, stigma, shame, skepticism, discrimination, and apathy have all been on its side. Each time AIDS has been defeated, it has been because of people's willingness to trust one another, communicate openly, support from families and communities, human solidarity, and a never-ending search for solutions. I do not believe the AIDS epidemic could have been prevented. AIDS could have been averted, but it was difficult to stop due to a lack of resources and information about the virus and its spread. The lack of information, particularly in regard to available resources like condoms for protection while having sexual intercourse and the need to test for AIDS and take necessary management interventions in case one tests positive is among the reasons AIDS has prevailed. Unlike in the past, HIV/AIDS is now a preventable disease that can be prevented with good education and the use of a number of services. More healthcare providers are aware of the diseases than ever before, and drugs for HIV/AIDS treatment are being investigated and developed. HIV-positive individuals should also use ARVS in order to prevent adverse health impacts and live for longer (Straubinger et.al, 2020).

Psychosocial stressors can have cumulative effects throughout a person's lifespa ...

Psychosocial stressors can have cumulative effects throughout a person's lifespan. Occupational stress can increase the burden on the cardiovascular system. On this basis, people develop responses that only increase inactivity. People also use poor dietary habits, alcohol, and cigarette smoking to deal with high levels of stress. These behaviors are becoming locking in the person's wellness routine. When a person reaches middle age, these behaviors are locked in. People will also develop arguments to maintain their present wellness system. These habits only predispose the individual to diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.    African Americans, despite facing greater cultural risks from psychosocial stressors, demonstrate remarkable resilience. Some of these challenges are rooted in inequity in socioeconomic resources. The social determinants of health also reveal the effects of cultural marginalization.  Mouzon (2022) argues that this resilience is evidenced by a lower rate of mental health disorders among African Americans. The challenges of the stressors, while significant, do not overshadow the inspiring resilience of this community.    Nurses face significant obstacles in addressing occupational stress. The demanding schedule and the professional culture often lead nurses to neglect self-care  and overlook the impact of stress. However, it is crucial to understand how stress contributes to burnout. A comprehensive understanding of stress empowers individuals to recognize and address its internalized  effects, thereby preventing the development of defenses that hinder a full review of individual challenges to well-being.

In Week 1 you needed to complete the Hazard Vulnerability Matrix Worksheet to begin the process in developing the HVA for Bobsville. Over the next 2 weeks you will utilize the Matrix to complete the Hazard Vulnerability Assessment Worksheet (one worksheet for each type of hazard; manmade, technological, natural) (adapted from FEMA course IS559). This tool assists the Emergency Manager in determining the probability and severity of the hazard. The goal is to identify the hazards that pose the greatest risk to the community - for our purposes in this course we are using Bobsville. Should you not have any information available regarding a hazard, make that known in the cell associated with the hazard and item of consideration. Keep in mind that the more meticulous you are the less problems you will have when you develop your EOP in EDMG220. Instructions DOWNLOAD THE EDMG101 HVA VULNERABILITY.XLSX. THIS CONTAINS A COVER SHEET AND 3 BLANK TABS TO FILL--NATURAL, TECHNOLOGICAL, AND HUMAN. Fill out your name and date on the cover tab. Why does the usual way of testing recognition of emotions overestimate accuracy? ...

Why does the usual way of testing recognition of emotions overestimate accuracy? This is your section to ask questions, reply, and provide feedback for the week prior to help us all grow a class. The standards for this section are as follows: Respect others’ rights to hold opinions and beliefs that differ from your own. Challenge or criticize the idea, not the person. Listen carefully to what others are saying even when you disagree with what is being said. Comments that you make (asking for clarification, sharing critiques, expanding on a point, etc.) should reflect that you have paid attention to the speaker’s comments. Be courteous. Don’t interrupt or engage in private conversations while others are speaking. Support your statements. Use evidence and provide a rationale for your points Allow everyone the chance to talk. If you have much to say, try to hold back a bit; if you are hesitant to speak, look for opportunities to contribute to the discussion. If you are offended by something or think someone else might be, speak up and don't leave it for someone else to have to respond to it.

For example - Dementia - new research has found that those who began to eat a specific food are showing early signs of dementia to better assist individuals with treatment and care. Please be advised that the paper is due on Sunday, 6.9.2024 in week 6. In your paper, you should include yet not be limited by the following: Mental health disorder - You should be citing the DSM 5 here The part of the brain and/or anatomy that are influenced or connected to this mental health disorder Discuss the history of treatment - successful and unsuccessful treatment options.
