Given a seismic wave velocity of 5 km/s in a particular rock layer and the depth to the earthquake epicenter is 30 km, calculate the time it takes for the seismic wave to travel from the epicenter to a seismograph located directly above it. Also, consider the wave's refraction if it enters a layer with a velocity of 7 km/s at a depth of 20 km.
In this week’s lab, you learned all about water quality, from major sources and types of pollution to methods of field assessment using benthic macroinvertebrates and chemical tests. Together, we completed an initial assessment of water quality in White Oak Creek. Now it is time to research your own local watershed.
The objective of this exercise is to describe a type of wetland in the context of the 3-component definition of wetlands that we used earlier in the semester. Although you should be able to do this for any type of wetland, complete this exercise using Mangrove Swamps of Sumbawa.
