The final exam will be held Tuesday, July 30th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. You will receive questions at 3:00 pm, and your responses will be due by 4:30 pm. Instructions will be posted here, though I will also share them in Discord during the last week of class. Instructions This exam consists of five sections, each named for a unit of the course. Answer two (2) of the three questions in each section with a 3-4 sentence response. Each response is worth 4 points. (You will answer 10 questions – again, two from each section – for a maximum of 40 points.) Do not quote the readings, though paraphrasing and summarizing may be useful. When paraphrasing or summarizing, refer to author surnames. You do not need to include page numbers or full references. For example, you might write “As DeSantis argued,” “Scheibel did X while DeSantis did Y,” or “For example, Scheibel explored…”. Here’s the rubric I’ll use to grade each question: 4 A Excellent. Answer is as complete as possible (for 3-4 sentences), directly responds to (each part of) the question, demonstrates mastery of the course content (i.e., you’ve done the readings, listened in class, and thought through the key concepts), and is well-written: concise, reasoned, and grammatically correct. 3 B Good. As above, though lacking in completeness, demonstrated knowledge, or writing. A concrete and well-written answer that misses part of the question might earn this grade. 2 C Average. As above, but lacking in two respects. This response might have all the right ideas, but the writing may be confusing and miss part of the question. Failing to invoke the relevant concepts or offering poorly-fitting examples may result in this grade. C work is often the realm of AI responses: not necessarily wrong, but certainly disconnected from our conversations in the course. 1 D Poor. Lacking in multiple respects, confusing, and/or incomplete. Your responses will be graded for Completeness: Does your response directly answer each part of the question? Knowledge: Does your response clearly show you have read and understood the lesson content by correctly mobilizing key concepts and arguments? Have you made inferences based on this knowledge to personal or contemporary applications? Writing: Do you write clearly, in complete sentences, with minimal errors in grammar and spelling?
