Social workers must understand the special challenges that may arise when providing services and supports for these populations, as well as the policies that may address the social justice problems that impact them. The purpose of this assignment is to explore a social justice problem that addresses a specific population or subgroup (for example, access to health care, access to social services, immigration, or veterans' mental health and services). This should be a problem that presents current challenges for social workers providing services and support. please respond to Christopher with 150. words I think that there have been instances in which our first amendment rights have been eroding due to the influence on social media companies on our political discourse. The public square is the most important aspect of a republic, as that is how ideas are disseminated throughout society. In modern times, the public square is social media. Apps like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and X are the main streams of political discussion, and the fact that the public square has become privatized is a worrying issue. Now, political discourse is at the whim of the opinions of men like Zuckerberg, or Musk, or even the Chinese government. It is incredibly worrying to think of these prospects, as now unelected businessmen can shut the main mode of communication off for a political candidate (see Trump being banned on Instagram/Facebook), and directly interfere with American Democracy. In regards to other amendments eroding. In regards to the Second Amendment there has been a steady eroding of it going back to the administration of FDR. From the NFA, to the ATF, to the Assault Weapons Ban, to the insane and frankly unconstitutional gun laws in California, to even the calling for of a mandatory buy back by the current Vice President of the United States, the Second Amendment is under attack. The second amendment is clear, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; the founders didn't write this amendment so that we could go hunting or even so that we could protect our home in the case of a burglary. The Second Amendment was written so that the citizenry would have the means to fight back against a tyrannical government if need be, and these actions the government has taken has hampered the ability of the citizenry to take such action. In regards to the Fourth amendment, with the expansion of the surveillance state after 9/11 there have definitely been questions raised as to whether or not the Fourth Amendment has been eroded. While I can't affirm yes or no I do believe that there is a groundwork for future eroding of it. It would not surprise me in the future if more illegal searches were deemed reasonable by judges and our Fourth Amendment rights become less strong. In regards to the Eighth amendment, I do not see that eroding. Many states under punish in many cases, for example the removal of the death penalty in many cases or the creation of "wobbler" crimes in the state of California

please respond to Amara  I definitely believe that freedom of speech is eroding under the 1st Amendment in today’s society it has become a threat due to how many people discuss the various factors including social media censorship. The video discussed how private social media companies such as Facebook and Twitter have the power to remove content and even ban users of these platforms, including elected official like former President Trump. Even though, they stated the First Amendment protects against government censorship, it does not apply to private companies that can lead to concerns about unelected individuals having the power to restrict speech. But this definitely does show government surveillance and control over the public’s speech and form of communications in social platforms. It’s an unfortunate and sad situation that there are many states that are introducing bills that would restrict specific topics that teachers are allowed to say in a classroom setting and what they cannot say. They are even banning books in schools which the video states about difficult historical topics like the holocaust and slavery. It blows my mind! The control they take away from our own historical past that we need to remember for our future generations is insane to me because we will have to work extra harder to teach our children our history. I also believe that the rights imposed by other Constitutional Amendments are eroding. The 2nd Amendment which is our right to bear arms, doesn’t directly apply to these rights. However, due to the focus being more on the 4th and 8th Amendments, the court’s constitutional rights suggested that the 2nd Amendment rights may be violated gradually over time. The 4th Amendment which is our protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, does apply to how it has been eroded over time through court decisions that have narrowed its reach and protection of our rights. One example for this would be a general trend of the courts substituting their own interpretations of the 4th Amendment protections rather than standing by the original Amendment’s text and limits of governing power. The 8th Amendment which is our right to prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment, does apply to how the court systems have grappled with the meaning and process of the 8th Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual consequences. One example that is ongoing of this debate is what standard should be used to determine if a punishment is unconstitutionally cruel and whether the death penalty violates this right. This is a highly important matter that is ongoing and in need of scrutiny and debate and hopefully we will see the full extent to this issue and how we can be better prepared for the future of our communities.

please respond to Amanda When it comes to the Rule of Lenity, I'm not whole heartedly in favor for it. I think it would depend on the type of crime that was committed and if the person being accused of the crime has had previous arrests for the same incident. I think for me it's the wording that says it should be interpreted in favor of the defendant. If it is a first time defendant, then ok, if they are remorseful and the court believes this person won't commit this crime again, then I am all for it. Although if this defendant has multiple similar charges and has no remorse for the crime they committed, then no, they should get the full punishment as stated in the law.   I do believe that justice for any victims under the Rule of Lenity could be greatly impacted. First time offender of assault with injury, but it leaves the victim on life support for the rest of their life. What happens when this defendant only gets probation and some public service hours. Or even if they are just to get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again. How would you feel if that was your family member left in that hospital bed Is that fair for the victim and their family? Absolutely not. When it comes to justice for victims and their families, the law should be upheld to the highest offense. If they are given a lesser punishment under the Rule of Lenity, they will be back out in society doing the same thing to someone else's family member, and the cycle will continue. 

According to Chapter 5, the Rule of Lenity says that laws/statutes that are unclear, are open to interpretation, so long as it is interpreted in favor of the defendant/accused. please respond to Tanzania The Rule of Lenity basically says that, in criminal law, when laws are unclear, the court should interpret them in a way that makes it favorable to the defendant. In other words, "Judicial interpretation of ambiguous laws should be biased in favor of the accused". I agree with this principle for several reasons. First, it means that the courts cannot establish both the boundaries of a crime and the punishment as well. Second, the Rule of Lenity protects defendants from being punished for behavior that is not clearly prohibited by law. It promotes the principle of due process and the separation of powers.     I do believe the interpretation of laws under the Rule of Lenity impacts justice for the victims of crime. On one hand, a defendant might be exonerated of a criminal accusation by some extenuating circumstance. This could leave the victim with a belief that the justice system is unfair and biased in favor of the defendant. On the other hand, a defendant could be convicted of a criminal act in which they were unaware of as being a crime. The victim of the crime might be left with the feeling of guilt that he or she was responsible for the defendant being wrongfully convicted.
