The tectonics lab will require use of an isostasy model made in MS Excel (the model is already made, you are not making it). You may bring and use your own computer, but in order to complete the lab you need to have MS Excel on your computer. I do not know if this model will work in all non-Excel spreadsheet software
1. The approximate volume of water retained in soil moisture and groundwater is given in Table 5.1. Use the data in Fig. 5.1 to calculate the time it would take for precipitation over land to deliver an amount of water equal to the soil water and groundwater. How long would it take to replace the groundwater and soil moisture if only 10% of the runoff could be redirected to replenishing the groundwater?
You are in a watershed right now - all the land around you drains into a waterbody. Because of this, what we do on the land’s surface has an impact on the local waterway. A healthy watershed is vital for clean drinking water, healthy aquatic life, and outdoor recreation. The health of the local watershed can directly impact a resident's quality of life and pocketbook (dirty water costs more to treat, and that cost is passed to the local citizens). As humans engage in agriculture, construction, and other activities, they can negatively impact the local watershed.
I need to calculate the dry soil density (g/cm³), porosity, specific retention, and specific yield. Additionally, I need to create a cross-section. There are handouts and supporting documents provided as guidelines, which outline how the solution steps should be approached."
I did the description of the sediment texture table and provided pictures of the samples I looked at in the lab numbered #1 to #3 different zooming only per sample. following the lab manual, I provided the Excel sheet that needs to be filled for tables 2 and 3, table 1 was an example. also provided the log probability graph sheet as Excel can't do it so you can do it drawing electronically or on paper as you wish. but the other graphs have to be done in Excel. The final work should be all separately in another WORD file.
This exercise provides a chance to make a virtual visit to some classic geologic units of southern Arizona, and introduces you to some basic techniques of conducting geological field work. Please watch the recordings and answer the questions for each stop. please see the attachment fill out the word dacument.
