Use the Excel planning chart provided in Modules - Week 5, identify at least 4-5 possible solutions based on the content of your peer-reviewed, researched-based resources. Briefly explain the pros and cons of each solution. Be sure to include the completed chart in your final narrative paper. Briefly identify the types of resources required to support each solution.  Briefly identify the research sources associated with each solution. select at least two (2) solutions you will use to build your implementation plan around in PBL Activity Assignment 4. Since this is the final writing assignment for the course, I would like for it to be more open-ended than the previous ones. In short, I would like for you to choose your own topic for a 350-500 essay that will be read solely by me rather than your classmates. The one restriction is that you focus on one or two of the last three works: Crimes of the Heart, 'night, Mother, and Driving Miss Daisy. You can focus on either the play or the film, or you can craft another comparison/contrast essay that focuses on both the play and the film. You might also choose to compare a feature of two plays or their film adaptations. What follows is a list of tips for success. (1) Tackle a challenging topic that will enable you to comment on how the author or authors deal with a significant idea or problem such as family disintegration, aging, suicide, gender norms, class restrictions, and racial discrimination. (2) Select a topic that you feel confident writing about. I will be reading to see how well you set up your topic and narrow your focus. My overviews to these three plays contain a number of questions that might generate ideas for an essay, but do not feel that you have to stick to my interests. (3) Cite passages and/or scenes to illustrate your point and be sure to discuss the implications of the passages you site. (4) Give your essay a title that reflects your central concern--for example, "The Legacy of Suicide in Beth Henley's Crimes of the Heart."

Topic: Choosing a System of Ethics In this course so far we've studied three ph ...

Topic: Choosing a System of Ethics In this course so far we've studied three philosophers that are often used to represent different systems of ethics*: Mill, Kant, and Aristotle. Which of the three philosophers has the most defensible position and why? All of the papers for this course must contain an argument or, if you'd prefer a different label, be "position-based papers." This means you should clearly state what your position is in the beginning and then develop and support the reasons you hold this position over the course of the paper. For example, if I wanted to argue that strawberry is the best flavor of milkshake, which it is, I would support my claim with reasons like “strawberries have excellent health benefits,” “they blend well with ice cream,” and “people who like strawberry milkshakes tend to be happier than those who don’t.” I would then develop each of those reasons and provide evidence for them to support my claim. To make this more relevant for our purposes: if you’re being asked to argue that a particular philosopher’s argument is more tenable than another’s, you would give your reasons this is so and then develop each of those reasons in the body of the paper. This means your paper should not: Merely be a comparison and contrast. taking up lots of space discussing chocolate or vanilla milkshakes doesn't directly support my claim that strawberry milkshakes are the best. Get bogged-down in summarizing background information. This is not an informative paper, so we don't need to see much summary, unless doing so helps you directly support your argument.  taking up space discussing the history and development of the milkshake isn't relevant to my overall claim. sometimes we might have to say one thing in other to say another, though keep the focus on your actual argument first and foremost. Unnecessarily use examples...especially long ones. If you have to illustrate a point using a lengthy example, you should reconsider how clearly you've made the point in the first place--especially given how these papers usually end up being around 3 pages long. In other words, avoid using different scenarios, examples, thought experiments, etc. if they’re getting in the way of making the actual argument. To summarize: if your argument is “Aristotle is the most tenable for Reasons X, Y, and Z,” you would then develop Reasons X, Y, and Z in their own parts, taking the above suggestions into consideration. In addition, I should give this piece of advice: if you’re not sure whether what you’re saying directly supports your argument, you should consider taking it out of the paper. I've said more about this in the Writing Guide within the “Paper Topics and Submissions” folder, as well. All papers must be submitted in a Word (.doc) file format and uploaded to SafeAssign. Google Docs submissions are not accepted. If I cannot open your file attachment, I cannot grade your paper which means it will earn a zero. All sources you use for these papers should be scholarly. The following is a non-exhaustive list of sources are not acceptable for use: Wikipedia, YouTube, Diffen.com, Quora, SparkNotes, Philosophy Now. If you have a question about whether or not to use a source, a good rule of thumb is to either ask or not use it. Topic: Choosing a System of Ethics In this course so far we've studied three philosophers that are often used to represent different systems of ethics*: Mill, Kant, and Aristotle. Which of the three philosophers has the most defensible position and why? Miscellaneous Caveats: Merely having an opinion does not make said opinion justifiable, defensible, or even good. As such, your paper would need to advance reasons you hold your position. Do NOT give personal examples and other anecdotal evidence when writing argumentative papers. I do not mean to suggest your relationships or experiences are trivial, only that we’ll need to keep the papers focused on the prompts. In academic writing it is generally advisable to write from a position of near-certainty regarding one's own position; meaning you should avoid language that implies hesitancy on your part. In other words write, “I assert...” “It is my position...”; NOT “I hope in/feel/believe.” The latter implies you aren't sure what you're arguing, or that your position is too wishy-washy. Finally, because this is a formal assignment, please use formal language throughout the course of your paper. Do not use contractions and Internet lingo.

Be sure to explain your answers and give reasons for your views. You should cite the textbook and use brief quotations and summaries from the textbook in your response. Do NOT use any other sources besides the textbook.  When you talk about the meaning of life, which sense of the term do you use-- external meaning or internal meaning? What bearing, if any, does the ephemeral nature of our existence have on the question of whether life has meaning? Does the fact that we die negate the possibility of meaning in life? Is Schopenhauer right about the meaninglessness of life? Does the wretchedness of our existence show that life has no meaning?

Instructions Assignment Instructions Create an 8-10 slide PPT, or some other presentation, that accomplishes the following: Chose some ethical issue you feel is important (abortion, gun control, climate change, eating meat, anything that can be considered a moral matter – if you are unsure, be sure to clear with your instructor) Present research on the situation being sure to clearly discuss both sides, as much as possible. Some conundrums will have much more weight on one side than the other such as climate change. Reiterate the primary theories contained in your moral compass from week 3 and then explain the position on this issue your compass promotes. Include a proper references/works cited slide (APA or MLA). For example, say you want to address gender-neutral bathrooms in public buildings. First, present some research from sources promoting that they should exist and from sources promoting they should not. Then reiterate the components of your moral compass as stated in the week three paper. Note, your compass may have evolved and if so, work in the new components. Finally, state your position clearly (they should or should not exist) and how your compass justifies that position. Keep in mind these best practices, please:  Proper PPTs have bullets on the slide that are explained in the notes section (see video on how to do this if you do not know how).  If you intend to narrate the presentation, be sure to include the transcript in the notes section (see PPT on how to insert audio if you do not know and want to give that a shot).  If, for any reason you are unable to access the notes section, put the transcript/notes in a MS Word document in a numbered list with the numbers matching the slide.
