Write a research paper comparing the BBC's and CNN's English-language coverage of the 2022 World Cup, examining coverage of the controversies surrounding Qatar hosting the tournament, including labor rights, human rights, and the impact on local communities. Analyze 20 articles from each news outlet (40 articles in total), using ethnographic content analysis as your method. Report your findings in the Findings section: present the themes you have identified and illustrate each theme with quotations from the articles. In the Discussion, offer possible reasons why the news outlets' coverage differs, drawing on explanations discussed in class: media systems, including state regulation and the news industry; the main journalistic practices and characteristics of reporters; geopolitical interests and foreign policy; digital technology and its impact on the news; the emphasis placed on foreign news; and cultural and ideological elements.
