Watkins, D. (1987). Labor and Religion in  D.H. Lawrence's " The Rocking-Horse Winner". Studies in Short Fiction, 295This article further built upon the thesis of W. D. Snodgrass who interpreted the short story to be about capitalism. Watkins, the author of the scholarly article I found, believed that labor and religion were also important themes in the short story. I found that this article was interesting because those two themes were mainly based off the character of the gardener. Overall, I never thought that the short story was based on capitalism.
