This module focuses on health equity and justice in health policy. This discussion gives you the opportunity to investigate an issue in health equity using the Health Equity Resources page from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which aggregates a wide variety of materials related to health equity. You will need to synthesize research on the health disparity or health equity issue and to evaluate existing health programs or policies on the basis of how they address that disparity or issue. Instructions Choose a health disparity or health equity issue to research by browsing the Health Equity Resources page. If you have a specific issue in mind, you can use the search bar. You can also use the Advanced Search functions on the right to find specific kinds of content, or you can search by organization to find reports and materials from a specific organization. It may also be helpful to skim through the titles of the items listed on the page, using the blue “Show More” button at the bottom of the page to review additional resources. Note that when you click on the title of an item, you will be taken to a summary page with a very short summary of the item, but in order to access the full resource, you will need to click the blue “View Blog” or “View Brief” or “View Commentary” buttons that appear to the right of each item’s title. Once you have chosen the health disparity or health equity issue you would like to research, use the search functions built into the Health Equity Resources page to gather 3–5 related resources from the site. Begin writing your discussion post in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, creating a set of links at the end of your document so that others can see the full list of materials that you have gathered. Review each of the relevant resources you have listed. Using the information you have gleaned from each of the resources, write a 500–750 word brief on the health disparity or health equity issue, summarizing the information from each of the sources you have listed. As you write this briefing, make sure to evaluate the impact of existing policies or programs on this health disparity or equity issue. Copy and paste your post and list of links from Microsoft Word or Google Docs into the discussion.
