This assignment requires you to investigate how the political and the social determinants of health may relate to a specific health disparity in a state or county within the United States. You will use the Health Equity Tracker website to compare disparities between two geographically defined areas. Instructions Identify a health disparity in the United States. If you need help identifying one, you can review the Health Equity Tracker. Please be careful to identify a disparity for which you can locate plenty of relevant data. Once you have identified a health disparity, locate specific data comparing two populations, two geographical areas, or some other comparative factor. Be alert for instances in which there is a clear relationship between one or more of the social determinants of health and the health disparity. Then try to establish whether there is a possible connection between that health disparity and the political determinants of health. Write up your findings in an MS Word document or Google doc, making sure to include at least four relevant data tables. In an introductory paragraph, explain what health disparity you are analyzing, and explain how you are defining the geography and demographics of your comparison. Then explain which of the specific social and political determinants of health may be related to the health disparity you are analyzing. Use the data tables to explain and illustrate your thinking, and make sure to explain the relevance of each data table you include. Aside from the text included in data tables, your data analysis paper should be about 800–1000 words in length.
