Thesis: In my proposed essay, I will discuss the experiences of the Jewish people in the Ottoman Empire with particular attention to their contributions to the economy, sociopolitical integration, and cross-cultural exchanges. My basic theory is that Jewish communities were able to flourish and play a major role in trade, finance, and diplomacy because of the Ottoman rulers' comparatively liberal policies and the empire's advantageous location at the intersection of Europe and Asia. I will examine the restrictions and difficulties Jews faced in this setting while arguing that this setting promoted a distinctive cultural synthesis that added to the Ottoman Empire's wealth and diversity.  * TURN THESIS INTO ARGUMENT (This is an argumentive essay) Write an argumentative history essay using Times New Roman, size 12 font, and double-spaced. The essay should include a strong, clear thesis (which will be provided and has been approved by the professor) that should be placed at the end of the introduction. This class focuses on Ottoman history, so the essay must be specific to the Ottoman Empire. Incorporate historical context and focus on a specific time period (16th to 18th centuries) that aligns with the thesis. Each paragraph should conclude with a sentence that ties back to the thesis for coherence. The paper should be well-organized so that it can be read smoothly from top to bottom or bottom to top with simple wording. Include quotes to support claims, using both primary and secondary sources. You are allowed to use sources from the syllabus, but you must also incorporate sources from outside the syllabus to demonstrate original research. Ensure that the primary sources are genuine primary sources. The paper must be written in MLA style, with a works cited/bibliography at the end. You must use at least 5 secondary sources and 2-3 primary sources. Some sources will be provided ( will provide google drive link with the sources), but additional sources (both primary and secondary) should also be found. I have attached an annotated bibliography that I made, which should be useful, though the thesis has been revised since then and may not be an exact match. Below the first thing I added is my annotated bibliography with summaries of different sources, use that to help write the essay and try to use some of those sources on there.
