The topic is : The concept of social solidarity/compassion according to emil durkheim and how it can be linked to the shipwreck of the expess Samina . The paper is for a sociology department and should be analyzed from this point of view. According to Durkheim, solidarity can be organic or mechanical. Organic solidarity refers to the unity resulting from the interdependence of the members of a society. In organic solidarity, people cooperate and depend on each other, . This can be linked to the wreck of the Express Samina, where the need for cooperation and interdependence was critical to the rescue of the passengers. Rescue efforts by fishermen, other ships, and ordinary citizen volunteers are examples of organic solidarity.
