The Assignment: For this week’s assignment you are to evaluate your current clinical site (if not currently in a practicum course consider a previous site) and identify a patient education need. Develop a one-page flier for the patient education material. It should be eye catching and written at a fifth grade reading level. There are many current references that point to creative assignments or tasks improving memory and retention of information for learners. Examples of topics: Can use abdominal, urological and gynecological conditions such as IBS, prostate cancer, constipation, UTI, or breast cancer for example. Or you may pick any topic that you have identified as important to your practicum site, some examples include: Intimate partner violence – what it is and identify the resources in your community. Diabetic foot care Medical Power of Attorney – what it is and how to set up. Resources for caregivers – National and specific to your community. Exercise for Older Adults – general guidelines, list anything that may be unique to your community, for example some parks or community groups may have walking clubs or Tai chi. Please see the Week 7 rubric while developing the flier. You can check the reading level with several sources online. In Word you can go to Home, then Editor, thenbDocument stats, then Readability Stats (will pop up) Flesch-Kinkaid Grade Level. Reference the source of information for your flier on a separate sheet to be uploaded with the flier, for example page 1 of the document is the flier and page 2 are the references.
