Breathing, Skin and Eye contact, and Swallowing. Breathing: When someone breathe sin the chemical it can stay in the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Skin and Eye Contact: When chemicals come into contact with the skin or eyes it can cause burns and irritation such as dermatitis. Swallowing: ingesting the chemical this can be done on purpose or by accident after touching things with the chemical you were just working with. In the salon setting I think the most common way of contact is breathing. I think the second most common is skin and eye contact but hardly anyone wears masks in salon and they are filled with the smell of hair dyes, monomer and more. What is one way to prevent chemical exposure from occurring? One way of prevention would be to limit chemical exposure. Obviously working in these areas where these chemicals are needed it is going to happen. But we can make sure we are constantly cleaning our areas and not cross contaminating like touching hair dye and then touching a cup and constant washing equipment and hands.
