PART 1 : DISCUSSION BOARD For this written assignment you may consult others, but the written narrative is to be your own work and not written by others or any sort of technological or machine generated text, narrative, or sources. You may use the writing center and other resources provided by the university, college, or department for completion of this assignment. The Twin Lakes Mining case file is attached to this discussion. Use the TEMPLATE used for prior discussions and cases. INITIAL POST First, and due by the date shown in the assignment title, take the position of the Mining Company and list the elements of your strategy or conclusions related to (1) Water Quality, (2) Air Quality and (3) Taxation of Company Land. Use the model for Integrative Negotiation to prepare your negotiation agenda brief or document (Lewicki et al., 77–95). Use the Template provided in Modules. Currently, a majority of registered voters that comprise the city believe that the mine should be closed, completely, however City leadership knows this is not a possibility given existing agreements and laws that cannot be overturned in the short run. A recent market study provided accurate and verifiable results. If there could be socially responsible endeavor or activity undertaken and publicized by the management of Twin Lakes Mining, the perception of the City’s constituents could become favorable for the company and its overall operations. Using the discussion board, make an initial post that lists two (2) of your elements or conclusions, and provide detailed reasons and evidence for each element or conclusion. Responses should comprise 400 to 600 words. Always write with accuracy, reliability and without error, and employ a professional, persuasive, legal style like espoused by the textbook authors. Remember to prepare your agenda using the TEMPLATE and then copy and paste the entire text into the Discussion, do not attach documents. Thank you. Conclusions must be specific and complete, measurable in a business sense, attainable based on case (problem or opportunity) case facts, resource related, and time specific. You must provide a narrative to lead your reader but do not write a book. Anyone in your target audience or parties to the negotiation must be able to understand and execute your agenda based on your business-related reasons (use prior coursework learning). Say the most with the least amount of words. Ensure your replies meet the SMART criteria expressed in paragraph one, and anytime you make a conclusion (element or strategic objective related to your party’s case), provide sound reasoning and evidence. Evidence can come from text. If you cite sources, ensure they are in the proper form. PART 2 : Case Analysis 2 - Twin Lakes Mining Responses should comprise approximately 1,000 words or three pages, single spaced with 1” margins, 12-point type, and with proper headings and subheadings including name of assignment as header, and the conclusions, reasons and evidence as major subheadings with introduction or conclusion when necessary, and a list of sources using proper APA or Turabian, Chicago-style parenthetical references. See course Syllabus for complete format information. See Expectations for Written Assignments, Discussions and Simulations for complete format information. Grading rubric elements comprise (1) format, (2) content, (3) style and (4) accuracy (proofreading) and are fully described in the rubric below. Any late submission of written assignments will receive a 50 percent grading penalty. OUTLINE OF FORMAT FOR WRITTEN CASE ASSIGNMENT DELIVERABLES Abstract Conclusions Reasons Evidence Implications (optional, but necessary for proper contingency planning) EXPLANATION OF FORMAT FOR WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS, DISCUSSIONS AND SIMULATIONS The classic Case Study Method is at the heart of Strategic Collaboration or a Collaborative Strategy and is the primary method we employ to pursue any negotiation related goal. The method is described in the primary textbook for MANA 4341 as the “Integrative Negotiation Process” (Lewicki et al., 2021, 61–77) and comprises four steps to prepare for either a distributive or integrative negotiation situation: Identify and define the problem or opportunity; Analyze interests and needs pertinent to all relevant parties or stakeholders; Generate alternative solutions based on proper reasoning; and, Evaluate and select the best alternative(s) based on evidence. Every other negotiation method may be derived from Strategic Collaboration based on the classic Case Study Method. We will use this four stage Method to prepare case arguments for the cases assigned for MANA 4341. The Case Study Method originated at Harvard University’s Business School over one hundred years ago. CONCLUSIONS (what), REASONS (why), EVIDENCE (how) is the structure of your written preparation for a case or negotiation situation. CONCLUSIONS are what you wish to argue as resolution of the negotiation situation, REASONS are why your argument is best or optimal for parties involved, and EVIDENCE deals with how your Conclusions and Reasons have been used or employed in the past to solve similar situations and are the same as precedent in a civil court case. Always use proper citations for your reasons and evidence, use facts and not opinions in your arguments. This is part of best practices and creates asymmetric advantage for the party that uses generally accepted facts. This is important to remember for all written assignments, and your argument during the final exam simulation involving Eurotechnologies, Inc. (Lewicki et al., 2021, 271-272). Use the Case Study Method or the four stages of the Integrative Negotiation process to prepare each of the three cases for MANA 4341. Each Case or Simulation written assignment will use the standard outline: Abstract, Conclusions, Reasons, Evidence. Each section should comprise a separate subheading in the written assignment deliverable. The initial class participation written assignment is structured similarly to allow students practice for the regular cases. Abstract [only necessary for the two written case assignments and Simulation report; not an introduction, a 250 word or less summary of entire negotiation agenda] Conclusions (necessary for both discussions and cases) Reasons (necessary for both discussions and cases) Evidence (necessary for both discussions and cases) FORMAT, CONTENT AND STYLE Format, content, and style all have different meanings: FORMAT or form-of-contract refers to the size, spacing, font, margins, subheadings, headings, etc. CONTENT refers to the type of information presented. STYLE is the way the information is presented, which in business is an informative, persuasive, or “selling” style related to strategic or tactical objectives. FORMAT REQUIREMENTS FOR WRITTEN WORK The format or form-of-contract for any written work assignment – Case, Discussion or Simulation – is the same as the format used for this Syllabus. Use single-spaced lines, 1” margins all-around, and Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman, 12-point type. Page numbers should appear at the top or bottom right of each page, but there should be no page number on the first page of the report. Each written assignment should be no more than three (3) pages of text, and a separate page for SOURCES. Please do not use a cover page. Subheadings are bold and underlined like shown in this “Any direct quotes or citation from the case or another text should be cited in parentheses” (author, date of publication, page number or numbers).
