Read about the McDonaldization of society and the rise of bureaucratic organizations on pages  ine the book MindTap for Kendall's Sociology in Our Times: The Essentials138-139. Since the Industrial Revolution and with rapid technological advancements, our societies have become increasingly formal and rationalized.  In your initial post write about the functions of bureaucratic organizations. Identify the cost we as a society, and as individuals, pay by creating these organizations and using them on a daily basis. In other words, what are the benefits, and what are the consequences of bureaucracy. In order to apply these concepts, describe how you benefit from bureaucracy on a daily basis. Also, describe a time when you were negatively affected by bureaucracy. Lastly, share your opinion about bureaucracy. Is it necessary? Can we live without it?

The American Dream has long been characterized as one's ability to move out of the socio economic status they were born into. Over the last ten or so years this has began to change and people have less of an ability to move out of the class background they were born into. What are some of the reasons this is happening? Is there a way to change it? Education, especially a college education, has always been seen as a way out, but with college getting more and more expensive and people going further in debt to go to college, do you think this is still a way out? What do you see as your own prospects for doing better or even the same fiscally as your parents? How have recent events like climate change or covid - changed your perspective on your ability to find a good job after graduation?

It is a requirement for all candidates matriculating in the MAT Alternative Teacher Certification Integrated to Merged Program, including candidates with a concentration in Special Education Mild/Moderate 6-12. This assessment requires candidates to develop a digital Teacher Toolkit inclusive of specified resources that can be implemented in the field-based EDPT 599 Special Projects, as well as EDPT 552 and EDPT 553 internship courses. The candidates demonstrate content knowledge for developing a teacher toolkit that includes materials/resources for improving instructional practices in secondary STEM content, and Mild/Moderate Special Education classroom settings. Specifically, the Teacher Toolkit is comprised of the following artifacts: 1.) instructional delivery strategies for accommodating all learners, including those with special needs, 2.) strategies for differentiating instruction, 3.) unit/lesson planning, 4.) classroom management plan, 5.) formal and informal assessment measures, and 6.) technological resources appropriate for integration into standards-based activities. Each candidate enrolled in EDPT 599 presents the Teacher Toolkit Project to the course instructor and a panel of raters that include mentor teachers and other faculty members for evaluation and determination of quality at the end of the course term. (b). A Description of How This Assessment Aligns with the Standards cited for Section III This assessment focuses on CEC Standard 1(Learner Development), CEC Standard 2 (Learning Environment), and CEC Standard 5 (Instructional Planning and Strategies). Fundamentals of Humanistic Thought, 2nd semester, 2024 Final Assignment General Instructions – please read carefully! Format: This assignment should not be longer than a total of two pages (not including the appendix), typed in standard font (Time New Roman or Arial) size 12, 2 lines spacing, justified (aligned both to the left and the right margins), with these specific margins (3.18 cm left and right, 2.54 cm top and bottom) Writing style should be academic, clear and brief. Use proper academic reference whenever you rely on sources, either printed or electronic. Bibliography is not mandatory if no sources are used Please answer 2 of the next 3 questions (50 points for each question). A 2022 report by The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) showed that nearly 40% of children in Nigeria (amounting to over 24 million children aged 5 to 17) “were engaged in labor activities that were injurious to their physical and mental development that year”. When discussing Child Labor the reasons often vary, with poverty and cultural norms being the primary ones. Many families rely on the income generated by their children as it is often customary for children to contribute to the family's income from a young age. Given the prevalence of Child Labor in Nigeria, please review the ethical implications of this practice by exploring the perspectives of moral relativism and moral absolutism. Moral Relativism: how would a Nigerian relativist and an Israeli relativist approach the issue of Child Labor? Moral Absolutism: how would a Moral absolutist approach the same issue? In your answer, please also address two of the following three philosophers (Mill, Kant and Plato) Your explanation must include a description of the theories and the different approaches. Steven and Alex, have been close friends for years and are now both single, at the same time, for the first time in their friendship. Recently, they have started to develop romantic feelings for each other. Steven is faced with a decision: to explore a romantic relationship with Alex, risking the potential strain on their deep friendship, or to maintain their friendship and suppress his emerging romantic feelings. Fatalism: How might a fatalist approach Steven’s decision if he chooses to pursue a romantic relationship with Alex despite the risks? Free will: How could an advocate of Free Will view Steven’s belief that Alex is, and always was, his soulmate? Soft determinism: How might a soft determinist interpret Steven’s fear that his past errors from previous relationships might reoccur in this new relationship? Your explanation must include a description of the theories and the different approaches. Rachel is writing an essay for the Fundamentals of Humanistic thought course. She has been studying intensively and is confident of her understanding of the material and the correctness of her answers. However, while reading the 3rd question, she starts to worry that her confidence might be misplaced and that she could be dreaming all her study sessions, leading to uncertainty about whether she truly knows the content and will get a good grade. Describe the dream argument in details Johnny, Rachel’s best friend, appeared at her door step and told her that she is not dreaming and that she has to submit her paper today. Can Johnny’s reassurance solve Descartes’ dream argument? Why? Motti, their university Professor, have invited Rachel and Johnny to his lab, where they are presented with Motti’s new invention: a new brain scanning technology that shows the differences between brain waves during a dreaming state and during a waking state. Can that finally solve Descartes’ dream argument? Why?

Journal 1 -  Reflect on your experiences, in real life or media, with the “communicative performance of ‘fake ID’.” How do your fake ID experiences (or those you’ve heard of) compare with what Scheibel describes? What tools does Scheibel offer for making sense Greek and college drinking culture? What does it mean for “fake ID” to be a “performance”? (For imaginary bonus points: Why is this article funny?) Write one multiple choice question about this reading. (Including the four or five answers.) Journal 2  Performativity, writes Jillian Cavanaugh, “is the power of language to effect change in the world: language does not simply describe the world but may instead (or also) function as a form of social action.” Put otherwise, words don’t (just) describe the world; they bring it into being. Consider the words “I do” when uttered in a wedding ceremony. They’re not descriptive, and can’t be described as true or false. Instead, they are the very act of becoming married itself. Read the first paragraph of Cavanaugh here (you should be asked to log in with your ONYEN). Then, describe how you use performative language in your day-to-day life. Try to find examples that are not mentioned in the paragraph Journal 3  Both DeSantis and Scheibel use ethnographic methods in their work. What is ethnography? Why do you think they chose this method? Do you (or people you know) smoke? (Don’t describe anything illegal.) Have you encountered any of the rationalization strategies that DeSantis describes? To what extent has smoker culture changed? Write one short answer question about this reading (DeSantis).
