As a global change agent, independent scholar, and current or future business professional, you may become responsible for initiating or managing multiculturalism initiatives. This can be a complex task, depending on the nature and structure of the organization. Having the foundational works of theorists may help you reach your goals, however, because within these theories are constructs or tenets that, when applied, can shape your own view and strategic approach to multicultural management for the purpose of mitigating risks, as well as supporting organizational initiatives. This week, you will have an opportunity to become familiar with some theorists and their theories related to multicultural management.  To prepare for this Assignment, review this week’s Learning Resources as well as any additional sources of your choosing. Research the theorists who developed theories related to multicultural management, and compile key information as part of your review.

This is a self-exploration assignment only, and helps you and me understand where students are regarding different populations and issues. Use this as an opportunity to be honest with yourself and the issues. For each item, imagine the person or situation is right in front of you, and place an “X” in the blank under the column that most correctly identifies your current feelings. You will only lose points for this part of the questionnaire if you do NOT mark each question. Please read the instructions on the handout below before beginning this assignment (the Values & Self worksheet that has to be used has been uploaded). (My name is Kim Wilis, For the race I'm Black/African American, for the chosen major it's Interdisciplinary Studies, # of semesters is 4, and for age I'm 54) I have also uploaded the rubric for this assignment.  ASSIGNMENT: PART II After completing the questionnaire, in a 1-2 page, APA-style essay (with title page, no reference page needed), comment on which client population(s) and issue(s) you feel most uncomfortable working with, why you think you feel this way, and how you imagine you would handle the scenario. Formal/Preparation Speech Outline Template Name: _______________________ Title: The History and Cultural Impact of Video Games Purpose: To inform my audience about the evolution of video games and their influence on culture and society. INTRODUCTION:  Attention-Getting Device: (This step helps us focus our attention on you and your message. As discussed in class, it is suggested that you begin with a story, quote, statistic, definition, use of suspense, etc.) Relevance/Relate to Audience (So what? Connect with the Audience): (Why should the audience listen? How is this relevant to them?) Credibility Statement: (Why are you qualified to talk on this topic?)  Thesis/Preview Statement: (Here summarize the main idea of your speech in one sentence or preview more specifically the main points of the speech) Directional transition: (Body of Speech -- Now that we've covered _______, let's go to ____________ or something more creative.) BODY: (Main Point One) (Your main points are the main ideas of your speech.) (Supporting Point) (Always needed. The supporting points are the breakdown of the main point into smaller units. They are the ideas necessary in supporting/proving/explaining your thesis. They are "reasons why," "primary types," "steps," etc.. (Sub Point) (Sometimes needed: The sub-points are the breakdown of the supporting point into even smaller units. They usually are your examples, narratives, statistics, testimony, etc. In other words, the sub-points explain the supporting points which support the main point). (Sometimes needed sometimes not, depends on how much support your supporting points need.) (Sometimes needed sometimes not, depends on how much support your supporting points need.) (Main Point Two, etc.) (See above re: --- I. ?A.? 1.? a. ? i./I. ? A.B. etc.? 1.2.Etc.? a. b. etc.? i. ii. Etc.))   (Main Point Three, etc.) (See above re: --- I. ?A.? 1.? a. ? i./I. ? A.B. etc.? 1.2.Etc.? a. b. etc.? i. ii. Etc.)) a. (Sub-sub points) (Sometimes needed, sometimes not, depends on how much support your sub-points need. b. Note, main points should be a strong statement sentence, your supporting point should be no more than a sentence or two, same with your sub-point and sub-sub point.  (Sub-sub-sub point) So if you have a main point or supporting point with multiple sentences, it means you need to format them into supporting/sub/sub-sub points as seen about: A. 1. a. i. etc. It gets easier as you do! (Always have at least two supporting points for each main point and use sub-points as needed re: above. --- I. ?A.? 1.? a. ? i./I. ? A.B. etc.? 1.2.Etc.? a. b. etc.? i. ii. Etc.)   Directional transition: (Main Point 2 -- Now that we have covered __________, let's move to __________. Be as creative as you like. Your transitions need to review your last point AND preview your next point. They show a connection and are a good time to remind the audience why this information is important.)   Directional transition: (See above)   Directional transition: (Set up that the conclusion is coming) CONCLUSION: Review/Connection Restated: (Re-states overall thesis statement or restate the main points of the speech in the order they were covered in the body of the speech) Concluding Statement: (Gives you a way to end your speech by putting a ‘bow on it’; do not end by stating "that's it" or “that’s the end of my speech” – think about it a bit, attempt to tie your concluding statement back to the introduction's attention getter.)

For the following case vignette, develop an action plan consisting of 3-4 action steps that the social worker should take in her situation (250 word minimum).. Case Vignette: Stacy Lynn Background In her sophomore year, Stacy entered her first social work course thinking she was interested in working with older adults. She envisioned herself working as a social worker in a nursing home or as a social worker practicing with the local Area Agency on Aging. A few semesters later, it was time for her to fill out her field internship application and interview with the field director. On her application, she listed three preferred internships, all of them at agencies that worked with older adults. When it was time for her interview, Stacy entered the field director’s office expecting to hear that she had been placed in one of the agencies listed on her application. During the interview, the field director reminded Stacy that the knowledge and skills of social work were transferable to many different practice settings. She encouraged Stacy to use her bachelor of social work (BSW) placement as an opportunity to become a generalist social work practitioner. She could expose herself to an area of social work that was different from what she expected and still develop the practice skills and experience to work with older adults. She reminded Stacy that if she continued on to her master of social work (MSW) degree, she could then do a placement with older adults as part of her area of specialization. Stacy heeded the field director’s advice and ended up completing her placement with the local juvenile probation office as a forensic social work intern. Her decision changed the course of her professional career. Stacy worked with an experienced probation officer as her field instructor. The probation officer had earned an MSW and a certificate in criminology. She also had completed a basic probation officer training program that made her eligible for hire as a probation officer. At first, Stacy spent her time at the internship observing. Eventually she worked with a small caseload of adolescents under the direct supervision of the field instructor. During her internship, Stacy learned how prevalent issues of loss and grief were for many of the adolescents that ended up on their caseload. She also learned how important relationships with parents and grandparents were in helping teens make better decisions about their future and stay out of the criminal justice system. Most significant, the internship changed what Stacy wanted to do with her life. She wanted to pursue a career as a juvenile probation officer. After finishing her BSW, Stacy earned her MSW in an advanced-standing program. An advanced-standing program allowed Stacy to earn her MSW in just one year. She then earned her basic probation officer training certificate, passed the Juvenile Probation Officer State Exam, and was hired as a juvenile probation officer at the same office of her field instructor, who was now the chief juvenile probation officer in Fayette County, Georgia. The Context Fayette County is in the northwestern part of Georgia, just fifteen miles south of the city limits of Atlanta. The juvenile probation office is located in the city of Fayetteville, the county seat. The juvenile probation officers assigned to Fayette County are part of the state Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), which employs more than four thousand staff members organized into four regional and twelve district offices. Stacy works in the District 3a office of the northwest region for the DJJ. Her basic responsibilities include conducting intake assessments; developing predisposition or presentence assessments; and supervising youth who are placed on probation, sentenced to short-term incarceration, or committed to the DJJ’s custody of juvenile courts. The Situation As she does every Tuesday morning, Stacy heads to the regional youth detention center to meet with teens assigned to her caseload. Shane Young, the first teen she meets with that morning, is scheduled for release from the detention center by Friday. Stacy needs to develop a release plan for Shane that will help him transition back into the community and remain out of detention in the future. In preparation for meeting with Shane, Stacy had met with his parents, the school principal, and representatives from a few human service agencies. In talking with Shane’s parents, Stacy had learned that they were fearful for him to return home after his latest altercation. At age fifteen, Shane is six foot three inches tall and weighs 290 pounds. He is bigger than his mother and stepfather. The police arrested him two months ago in the middle of the night after he assaulted his eleven-year-old step- brother while in the midst of a drunken rage. This was the second assault incident for Shane in the past year, prompting the judge to sentence him to thirty days in detention and six months of probation. In the few weeks that Stacy has met with Shane, she has found him to be a likable young man. He also seemed to benefit from his time in detention. He attended school, participated in an alcohol and drug support group, and was a model inmate, avoiding altercations with any of the other juveniles. Shane also expressed remorse about hurting his stepbrother. Despite her update and assessment to his parents, they remained fearful of how Shane would behave after he returned home. Stacy has to develop her report for the judge by Wednesday at the end of the day so the judge can approve his release and rehabilitation plan. She also had to talk to Shane about his parents’ fear and unwillingness to have him come home. She is concerned about how Shane would respond to his parents’ fear. She hopes she can eventually intervene with his parents to make a plan for him to re- turn home and for them to feel safe. As she sat down to meet with Shane, Stacy wondered what to say and what to recommend to the judge.

Required content: Concisely review the specific causes and consequences of the problem that you intend to focus on. Reference Memo #1 and make sure to incorporate any feedback on your first memo from your instructors. Keep in mind that while Memo #1 covered all of the most prominent causes and consequences, this memo focuses on the specific causes and consequences that are relevant to the solution your will propose. Review one or more theories/concepts that help the reader understand the cause(s) of the problem that you are focusing on. Explain specifically how this concept/theory helps us understand why this problem is occurring. Briefly discuss a minimum of 2 empirical scholarly articles that demonstrate why this theory or concept is helpful in explaining the problem. This review should not simply summarize the findings of the studies, but persuasively demonstrate how the theory/concept applies to the specific problem. If you use more than one concept/theory to explain the causes (in the above step), you need to review at least one scholarly article per theory/concept. Review one or more theories/concepts that help the reader understand the consequence(s) of the problem that you are focusing on.
