For the literature review I want to explain, analyse and criticize 3-4 theories of voting and how this could apply to the Maldives. These include social identity voting theory, political socialization theory, life cycle theory and political identity theory. Political identity theory is the theory I want to choose in my theoretical framework. My hypothesis is that voter turnout among the youth in the Maldives is low due to a lack of of a political identity.

Research Assignment #10: Electoral process in Authoritarian Regimes: 'The Dictator's Dilemma'  Dear Students: This is a qualitative research assignment 'case study', write an executive summary examining your critical thinking by comparing electoral process in Authoritarian regimes.  Consider the 'Dictator's Dilemma for Governing' and 'Regime Change' for nations that have been under Communism, Dictatorship or Theocratic rule with authoritarian rule.  Describe how the 'electoral process' works and affects the governing regime rule.   Please choose one case study to compare regime change and electoral process in authoritarian systems.  Case Study: N. Korea vs Iran  or China vs Russia Mission: See Module III Supplemental Links, Textbook and utilize online resources to complete this assignment/case study.  Please evaluate and define the institutional principles of one Case Study: "N. Korea vs Iran" or "China vs Russia" as Regimes with electoral process.   Through your own critical and comprehensive analysis you can make a comparison and detect the similarities and differences that these two nations have as Authoritarian regimes and reflecting on the 'Dictator's Dilemma'.   Guidelines to Consider for your Research:  Why has Putin preserved the trappings of democracy rather than creating a purely authoritarian regime? Can you use the theories of why dictators allow institutions to survive to explain Putin’s actions? What do recent trends suggest for the future stability and success of Putin’s regime? Recent trends have suggested that the quasi-democratic elements of Iran’s governing institutions are relatively weak. Nonetheless, how might they help the top Iranian leadership overcome the dictator’s dilemma that all authoritarian regimes face? What does Iran’s history suggest about the relative importance of repression, co-optation, and legitimacy for the survival of authoritarian regimes? Can the theories that explain the durability of electoral authoritarian regimes be applied to Iran’s theocratic regime? How much do they help us explain Iran? What does China’s succession system suggest about the relationship between personal power, succession, and regime survival in authoritarian regimes? The Chinese government has allowed participation and criticism at the local level in various ways but repressed it firmly at the national level. Can you use the idea of the dictator’s dilemma to explain this pattern of behavior? How can the theories of authoritarian rule outlined earlier in the chapter be used to explain the durability of China’s regime? Considering the Dynastic Dictatorship of North Korea and Supreme Leadership, how does the electoral process within the regime functions and represents the people? What's the Dictator's Dilemma for N. Korea?   Research Guidelines:  Please view the Supplemental Links Part I attached in the module for further research and inspiration. I am in a UCLA master's program and need help writing a research paper regarding the country Niger. We had to look into recent news and come up with something relevant from the country, and I found that Niger was leaving ECOWAS. I came up with this research question: How does Niger's withdrawal from ECOWAS affect its economy? The paper MUST follow the format that the example I provided is in. Please READ the INSTRUCTIONS that I attached as a file, carefully as there are specific instructions about needing a MINIMUM of 8 PEER-reviewed journals which should be found on Google Scholar (or elsewhere as long as they are PEER-REVIEWED) and then you can have other sources that are not peer-reviewed.  Note: The Introduction should be solely about Niger and follow the instructions that I provided for the situation (Niger leaving ECOWAS and why they are leaving. Background about Niger, and whatever else is asked in the instructions. Can also include general theories for why countries withdraw from international organizations. ***The Literature review should not only include information regarding Nige's withdrawal. Instead, the literature review section should focus on countries IN GENERAL (not just about NIGER) but countries, in general, using past information; one side should be about: Countries withdrawing from international organizations positively impacts their economy. AND one the other side/section should be: Countries withdrawing from international organizations negatively impacts their economy. At the end of each section, you should discuss how this would relate to NIger and relate it to them (positive and negatives for them) **** There is a Title page (which does not count with the page count), a table of contents, an Introduction, and a literature review (which discusses two sides exactly how the example does it. You can say one side is 1. Countries withdrawing from international institutions have positive impacts on their economies. and 2. Countries withdrawing from international institutions have negative impacts on their economies).  For the Theoretical Argument feel free to put whatever you think (whichever side you agree with most). This should be about Niger specifically. So basically the literature review is about using other countries' withdrawals from international organizations' effect on their economy to help with how withdrawing is positive toward their economy and how withdrawing is negative toward their economy. But make sure to bring in Niger into it, as the paper & research question is based around this country  Below is one peer-reviewed journal that I found that is good to use. You will need 7 more of these, remember these can be about countries in general, not just Niger. Also, use more outside sources that don't need to be peer-reviewed (this is where you will find most of the information regarding Niger leaving ECOWAS). I don't know if these will help you, I am just providing them in case they are useful, but you would need to find more on your own.  Peer-reviewed one (I went on Google Scholar and looked up "the cost of withdrawal from international organizations") :  https://www.peio.me/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Bor... Non-Peer-reviewed journals that may help (not really sure if it is relevant though, just adding it in case. For this I looked up "Niger's investment credibility in light of its withdrawal in ECOWAS”: https://theconversation.com/ecowas-why-withdrawal-... https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/6654...

U.S. Foreign Policy - Ukraine The United States is struggling to deal with the ...

U.S. Foreign Policy - Ukraine The United States is struggling to deal with the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Russia, growing increasingly aggressive under President Vladimir Putin, invaded Crimea in 2014 and got almost no international pushback, which may have emboldened him to think Russia would suffer little international resistance to invading Ukraine. Ukraine is an important target. Known as the "breadbasket of Europe" for its rich agricultural production, successfully conquering Ukraine would also give the Russian navy and merchant ships access to the Black Sea - warm water ports that connect through the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean, and through the Suez Canal to the Indian Ocean. The United States is in a difficult spot. The rest of the world looks to the U.S. for leadership in situations like this. We have the largest and most advanced military in the history of the world. If the U.S. sits back and allows Russia to conquer Ukraine, Georgia is likely next. Russia's economy is fragile, and the current strategy of sanctions will create some hardship for Russia, but they might not be enough. A full scale war with Russia - a war between two nuclear powers - over Ukraine, no matter how well justified, could have devastating results for the entire planet. I hesitate to say a lot about the progress of the Russian invasion as I write these assignment directions - a lot can change between now and November, when you'll be doing this assignment. If you're reading this early in the semester, know that I'll add more detail and some current links as we get closer to the due date. Your assignment is to write our standard 2-5 page college-level essay about United States foreign policy options with respect to Ukraine. What, if anything, should the U.S. do? If you were advising President Biden, what would you recommend? (Remember, this isn't an essay about Ukraine, or the Russian invasion of Ukraine, or what you think of Vladimir Putin - it's an essay about U.S. foreign policy options regarding Ukraine.)
