In this course, you will study production management. As part of the course, you will analyze an aviation or aerospace industrial management issue related to production/operations management and write a research paper PAPER TOPIC: Alaska Airlines flight 1282's Plug door departure during the flight. The title will be "Alaska Airlines Flight 1282: A Failure of Operations to Get It Right." This was a failure of many parts of the Boeing production line and delivery center but in different ways and should have been captured prior to delivery but was not. Additionally, not following known processes and procedures in many ways leads to this; an operations manager at some level should have seen this type of issue coming if they were in touch with their personnel. The previous work culture and allowance of out-of-position work in order to meet the schedule was no excuse for it being missed. Considering the 10 OM decisions, your paper will be a review of issues that were caused by a failure in the production/operations management process. You will compare and contrast the current research findings with the principles and concepts presented in your Heizer, et al. textbook. All reference sources should be from academic journals, professional trade publications, and respected business or industry magazines. Limit the use of books as sources. Do NOT use articles or sources from Wikipedia! Use references published within the past six years. The basic rules for your research paper include: Follow the current Writing Style Guide for manuscripts closely. The paper should be 10 pages at a minimum. Use one-inch margins on all sides. Left justify all narrative. Use Times New Roman font, 12-point. Indent the first line of each paragraph one-half inch. Double-space everything in the paper. Do not add extra lines or spacing between paragraphs or sections of the paper.

In your own words and no less than 1.5 pages, double-spaced, summarize the major learning points of Chapter 8. H10_B: Exercise 1, page 222. Study the problem setup with variable definitions and equations (see exercise 8 setup and discussion pdf) and open the excel and verify setup of this linear programming problem. Then run Solver to obtain the optimal solution. For Exercise 1 part b), change cell E16 of sheet DATA to 40, and run Solver again to obtain the optimal solution. For Exercise 1 part c), change cell E15 of sheet DATA to 1,200 employees, then 1,300, etc., running Solver after each change. For Exercise 1 part d) we add a new constraint: . Read Chapter 7: Demand Forecasting in a Supply Chain, pages 185 – 204, and review the Chapter 7 PP, Part B Slides beginning with slide 38 (Note that Part B contains Part A for reference slides). Homework H9: Discussion Questions 4, 8, 9 on page 199 (see attached). H9_a. Exercise 1, p. 200 (continued from last week). Referring to H8_a.xlsx, tab Exercise 1, evaluate the bias, TS, MAD, MAPE, MSE (already elevated in H8_a.xlsx). Use section 7.6 and 7.7 as a guide to evaluate the quality of the forecast. Be sure to reference the various charts in H8_a.xlsx that discuss Normality of the forecast errors, the tracking signal, MAD, MSE, etc. Do NOT simply state "the forecast looks good" or some other trivial statement lacking reference to all the important material provided in H8_a.xlsx. H9_b. Exercise 2, p. 200 (continued from last week). Review H8_a.xlsx and, for the two cases in part a) and b) below that were performed in H8_b last week, answer part c). a) 4-week moving average (MA) b) exponential moving average with a=0.1 (EMA) c) evaluate the MAD, MSE, bias, for case (a) and (b) above. Which method (MA or EMA) do you prefer? Why? Hint: compare MSE and MAD for each method and select the one with minimum MSE and MAD. This problem is discussed on slides 49 and 50 of Chapter 7 PP, Part B. Required Textbook: Supply Chain Management, 7th Edition, Author: Chopra. Publisher: Pearson, ISBN-10: 0134731883.

Thank you, Shaquality, for your thoughtful and insightful post. The relationship ...

Thank you, Shaquality, for your thoughtful and insightful post. The relationship between the style adopted in leadership cannot be separated from the individual’s way and perception of life. The style of rulership adopted by a leader impacts freedom of expression within groups. It is indeed true that authoritarian leadership can suppress voices, whereas democratic approaches foster openness. However, effectiveness in managing an organization often requires a balance, that is, knowing when to guide decisively and when to step back and foster inclusive dialogue. Sometimes, even democratic environments can become stagnant if there's a lack of direction, so it's about knowing the needs of the group and adapting accordingly. Your example of how differing ethical priorities—like honesty versus team loyalty—can create tension in decision-making is a powerful reminder that conflict is not always about personality clashes but often about deeper value systems. Encouraging ethical transparency within teams requires trust, and confidence only grows when team members believe that speaking honestly will not come with negative consequences (Abson et al., 2024). I agree with you that cultural differences influence communication styles and perceptions. Misunderstandings often occur not because someone is being difficult, but because their background shapes how they express disagreement or interpret tone. Something as simple as silence in a conversation can mean discomfort for one person and respect for another. For example, in a cross-cultural team I worked with, an American expected an immediate response to a question, but a Japanese colleague paused before replying. The silence was considered hesitation by the American, but the Japanese team member later explained it was a sign of respect and careful thought in their culture. Being culturally aware means staying curious, asking questions, and not making assumptions about intent. Emotional intelligence is essential when subgroups begin to form within teams, potentially leading to division or unethical decisions (Alzoubi & Aziz, 2021). Leaders and team members alike need to be intentional about inclusion—drawing out quieter voices, mediating disagreements, and ensuring everyone feels ownership of the group’s direction. When we take time to learn each other’s values and approaches, we move closer to ethical, unified teamwork void of conflict. References Abson, E., Schofield, P., & Kennell, J. (2024).
