For this assignment, you will begin the process of developing a comprehensive research paper utilizing Robert Jensen's "apocalyptic thinking" methodology. For this part, you will write a short paper identifying and discussing the context of the social issue/problem that you intend to explore for your Social Responsibility Essay. LEARNING OUTCOME MASTERY The Social Responsibility Essay writing process is intended to help you master the following course learning outcomes: develop your ability to engage in inquiry be systematically exploring issues through the collection and analysis of evidence that results in informed conclusions ("judgements") using Jensen's "apocalyptic thinking" methodology develop your ability to engage in problem solving by proposing a solution ("judgement") to a social problem that demonstrates a deep comprehension of the problem, is sensitive to contextual factors, and considers the ethical, logical, and cultural dimensions of the problem INSTRUCTIONS Briefly, in one or two pages, describe the social issue or problem that you have chosen to research this semester. First, clearly state which issue/problem you have selected. Second, give some background on the issue/problem. What is the issue/problem? Who is impacted by the issue/problem? How broad is the issue/problem? Third, explain why you selected this issue/problem? What is your relationship with the impacted community? Why do you think this issue/problem is important and should be researched further? At this point you do not need to conduct much research. Rather, you want to think about why you think a particular social issue/problem is worth researching further. You will want to formulate a research question to help drive your research for the second phase of the project. Research questions should be open-ended (not yes/no) and focus on how or why. For example, Why have mass shootings increased precipitously in the past twenty years? You will use the research question to guide your research during the next phase (annotations) of the project. Using our example research question, as we move forward and start gathering sources about the topic we would look for research into mass shootings, gun control legislation, arguments about the second amendment, etc. We might also look into conversations about mass shootings, causes that have been suggested (i.e., mental health, ideation), as well as any mitigations that have been tried (i.e., armed teachers, gun-free zones) and whether there is research evidence measuring the effectiveness of those interventions. Sometimes you might find that there is not a lot written specifically about a particular topic. In that case, you might look for similar cases that you can compare to the social issue/problem you are studying. FORMAT REQUIREMENTS Double-space, use 1" margins, and use an appropriate font and size (e.g., Times New Roman 12pt, Arial 11pt). Follow APA 7th edition styleLinks to an external site. for any citations/references you might include. For this phase, citations/references are not required unless you use another person's words (quote) or ideas (paraphrase). WHAT TO SUBMIT You will submit your description of the social issue/problem, context, and explanation of why you think that this issue is worth studying further, along with your research question. Attach your topic paper as a Word document (.docx) or Portable Document File (.pdf).

Seeing Value in Both Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods (This is the IP assignment below 4-6 pages not including references 1st assignment this is different from the DB so separate essay) This course aims to provide a valuable component in your toolbox of professional skills when you are dealing with real-world decisions. Much of your training will emphasize qualitative methods as a primary approach to understanding organizations, but there is a time and a place for each method. Based upon your desired outcome, many research questions can be approached through a qualitative or quantitative research method. It is up to the researcher to determine which method to use, and each method provides different information to address the research question. Scenario An organization has struggled financially against a very competitive product market and needs to change or shut down. Discuss the following: Suggest an appropriate qualitative and quantitative approach. What would be the advantage of each choice? How would each research methodology help the organization survive? What benefits would be achieved by each approach? Be substantive and clear, and use scholarly support to reinforce your ideas. Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400-600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas. You will be using SPSS software to do most of your analysis. SPSS is at the mercy of your input. Address the following: What are variables, and in what ways can you enter data into SPSS? Task/Assessment Brief: Assessment Task PORT1 (50%) with 2,000 words Employment relations in the Gulf region, including Oman, are characterized by unique dynamics shaped by labour market structures, cultural norms, and economic reliance on expatriate workers. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Oman, emphasize a dual labour market system where expatriates dominate private sector employment, while nationals are largely employed in the public sector. Policies like Omanisation aim to address workforce localization by increasing the participation of Omani nationals in private sector roles. In Oman, employment relations are regulated by the Labour Law (Royal Decree 35/2003), which emphasizes employee rights, workplace safety, and dispute resolution. While strides have been made to improve employer-employee relations, challenges such as skill mismatches, expatriate dependency, and rising expectations for employee engagement persist. Effective employment relations in Oman require balancing economic growth with fair treatment and inclusion of the national workforce (Al Wahaibi, 2020; Gengler, 2021). Task 1: (1000 words) Critically discuss this statement with reference to the key challenges and opportunities associated with Omanisation. You should integrate relevant theoretical frameworks into your analysis to establish a solid foundation for your arguments. You should also support your discussion with specific real-world examples from Oman and other GCC countries to demonstrate how these theories are applied in practice, ensuring a clear connection between theory and real-world situations. Task 2: (1000 words) Analyse this statement by exploring its implications for labour policies, employer-employee dynamics, and workplace practices in Oman. You should utilize relevant theoretical perspectives to support your analysis, ensuring your arguments are rooted in established concepts. Furthermore, you should include concrete examples from real-world situations to showcase how these theories are practically applied, strengthening the overall validity of your analysis and to demonstrate how this system affects employment relations and suggest ways to promote a more balanced labour market. References – Minimum 10 references from various sources such as e-books, books, journals, academic websites, e-journals and other authentic sources following Harvard referencing style. Additional instructions: 1. Use Times New Roman font type and size–12 with 1.5-line spacing and appropriate margins. 2. Answer the tasks with clear, organised and logical discussion. Support your answer with clear examples, concepts or theories. 3. The answer should be in sequence as mentioned in the marking criteria.
