Overview Global Green Books Publishing (GGBP) was started two years ago by two friends, Jim King and Brad Mount, who met in college while studying in Philadelphia, PA. In the new business Jim focused on editing, sales, and marketing while Brad did the electronic assembly and publishing of books for their new company. Their business was successful and profitable in the first two years, largely due to contracts from two big businesses. In their third year, they got very busy thanks to their third major customer, a local college that needed customized eBooks. They hired several part-time employees (mostly students) to help them with their publishing business. But by the end of third year of operation, Global Green Books Publishing started experiencing critical problems. They were: inability to leverage all the new employees effectively unable to deliver eBooks to their customers on schedule problems with providing quality texts; time and money were being spent fixing defects in their products lack of cost control; their business was not profitable in the third year Global Green Books Publishing saw a significant rise in issues, and several unpleasant "surprises" were cropping up; business was down as new resources were hired, and some of the projects were poorly estimated. The local university was unhappy as their eBook products reached campus late for use by professors and students. In some cases, the eBooks were a week or two late. Since the courses must start on schedule and students need their eBooks at the beginning of their courses, the new, potentially lucrative college customer was unhappy. One of the new part-time employees hired by Jim and Brad, Samantha, had taken a project management course at college. Samantha was excited about the discipline of project management and had intentionally selected a job with Global Green Books Publishing as she saw an opportunity to polish her project management skills. One day, Jim invited Samantha for a lunch meeting. He was aware that Samantha was familiar with project management, and wanted to hear what she had to say about the problems he and Brad were facing. Over lunch, he questioned why their small business, which had operated and implemented projects so successfully over the first two years was being challenged significantly now. He specifically listed the problems they were facing and asked for input to solve them. Samantha asked for more time to research all the issues and later reported to the owners that Global Green Books Publishing, while being innovative, completed projects without a roadmap or a project plan and lacked a disciplined approach to project management. She noted that Jim and Brad did not use any project software for scheduling and they did not use tools or techniques to estimate, budget, or to communicate with stakeholders. Finally, they had no processes in place to manage project risks and quality. Impressed with this and other conversations, Jim asked Samantha if she would consider being reassigned as a project manager to help them introduce workable project management practices. Samantha accepted the offer. As her new bosses had figured out, she has several key skills; she is an excellent communicator with very good interpersonal skills and is detail-oriented. Within the first three months in her new role as PM, she introduced formal project management processes, created a PM manual, and trained the employees to get the work done successfully. Within nine months, Samantha had fully turned things around. Due to proactive risk analysis and risk response planning, surprises and issues were greatly reduced. Communication with stakeholders was enhanced. Brad and Jim noted that the company was delivering projects on schedule, the quality processes worked, and customers were happy with the products! Instructions Comment on the following aspects of the case study: Why did Global Green Books Publishing struggle initially? What were the specific PM solutions that were introduced by Samantha that worked?

After you have read the material on affirmative defenses, respond to this actual case study. Your response should be a one page paper, double spaced, within one week of being assigned. Case study: A full time employee working for a carpenter contractor in the Midwest was assigned to clean a shift's worth of debris, wood, nails, and packaging materials from an elevated work platform prior to washing it down with a high pressure hose at the end of the shift. The employee was trained on fall protection; was provided a fall harness, lanyard and connection devices and he was given ample time to do the job according to the JSA (Job Safety Analysis) which showed the employee the risk of falls from heights, and required the employee to hook his lanyard to an established anchorage which was engineered by his employer. On the day of the incident in mention, the employee climbed up to the work platform and did not use his harness or lanyard, nor did he hook himself to the established anchorage, all of which was against his training, the JSA and against company work rules. After about ten minutes, he fell from the elevated work platform and broke his arm and his back leaving with permanent, costly and debilitating injuries. Exclusive of an OSHA consideration of violation for fall protection, the employee sued his employer for in civil court for unsafe working conditions. On one hand, the court would have to decide if the employer provided a safe workplace and safe working conditions; did the employer do its due diligence? On the other hand, the court would have to decide if the employee was trained, had been exposed to the employer's JSA and had ample equipment and time to complete the job. Using the affirmative defenses we have studied, which of them (one or more) apply to this scenario, if any, and why? You should use the exact language provided, Defend your position which would support the employer or the employee. It is not a legitimate response to divide responsibility in this assignment using the theory of comparative negligence.

In the photo below, taken in 1931 during the construction of the Empire State Building in New York, three iron workers are riveting beams together to create a much lighter and stronger building than previous mortar or prick buildings. The construction techniques were extremely modern and strong: so strong was the Empire State Building that only fourteen years after this photo was taken, a B-25 bomber flew into the same building at approximately the same floor where these workers are. The building withstood the shock of the airplane strike, impressing everybody in New York about the strength of the building. Look closely at the two photos and compare how safety was done in early industrial America compared to today. Write a brief description about each of these safety hazards. Point out what the hazard is in each photo, and point out how the hazards, old and modern, are controlled, if they are controlled at all. As part of your description, try to answer the following questions: What was done to protect workers from falls from heights, then and now? What was done to protect worker’s hands from hot or sharp objects? What was done to protect the public or workers below when tools are mishandled and maybe dropped from above? What was done to warn workers about falls from heights or imminent danger?

1)Most of us are familiar with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc. Discuss BPaaS. Consider how business processes as services can increase the threat surface.  Write in essay format not in bulleted, numbered or other list format.  Cite your sources. Do not copy. Reply to two classmates' posting in a paragraph of at least five sentences by asking questions, reflecting on your own experience, challenging assumptions, pointing out something new you learned, offering suggestions.   You should make your initial post by Thursday evening so your classmates have an opportunity to respond before Sunday.at midnight when all three posts are due.  It is important that you use your own words, that you cite your sources, that you comply with the instructions regarding length of your post and that you reply to two classmates in a substantive way (not 'nice post' or the like).  Your goal is to help your colleagues write better. Do not use spinbot or other word replacement software. It usually results in nonsense and is not a good way to learn anything. Please do not use attachments unless requested.  2)Do a bit of research on-line. Find a criminal case that involved Digital Forensics.
