Option #2: Agile with Six Sigma YOU HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT AGILE, BUT DO YOU REMEMBER ANY OF YOUR PRIOR TRAINING ON SIX SIGMA? SIX SIGMA USES AN APPROACH CALLED DMAIC: DEFINE, MEASURE, ANALYZE, IMPROVE, AND CONTROL. IN THIS CRITICAL THINKING EXERCISE, YOU ARE TO DEVELOP A SYSTEM THAT UTILIZES AGILE AND SIX SIGMA PHILOSOPHIES AND TECHNIQUES FOR A PROCESS AT YOUR WORK AS A PROJECT MANAGER OR FINANCIAL ANALYST. For example, you may wish to use an Agile small team that works in Sprint increments to plan a new way to measure and analyze the component assembly of a radio. Within Agile, one shortcoming is that there may not always be accurate quantification of the project value. With Lean Six Sigma, there may not be a clear and consistent limited scope of analysis, i.e., 2-week Sprints. Together, Agile and Six Sigma may provide the best of both philosophies. Here are a few questions that should drive your thinking as you consider your Agile with Six Sigma application and as you prepare to write your paper. Do not list these questions. These are only a beginning subset of the things you might consider and are not meant to be all you write about. So, what would you do? What parts of Agile will you use? What parts of Six Sigma will you use? How do you know that those parts will work well together? How would you communicate the changes to your employees? What are the priorities? What tools would you use? How will you know if the revised process is working? What Six Sigma reports would you develop?
