Objectives In this part of the lab activity, you will use the Plate Boundaries Key to correct and label your Rough Draft map from Lab 2 Part 1. After you complete the activity, you should be familiar with the names of the major tectonic plates, the approximate locations of plate boundaries, and the types of plate boundaries that exist between the plates. You should also be familiar with the features that are associated with each plate boundary type. If you are not, go back and review the explanations and videos in the lab introduction. Lab 2 Part 3 will ask questions about these concepts. This assignment addresses:  Course Objective 2: Use seafloor features to determine the location of plate boundaries and the motion of tectonic plates. Student Learning Outcome 1: Students will be able to use seafloor features to interpret the motion of the tectonic plates. Supplies Needed Your Rough Draft Map from Lab 2 Part 1. A black pen and three colored pencils or markers, preferably green, blue, and red. If you don't have access to a printer, you can continue to digitally "markup" your map image as you did in Part 1. First, read through the directions in their entirety, as they will lead you through the activity. When you are ready to submit your map, click "Start Assignment" to upload your file. You have unlimited attempts on this activity (you can resubmit your map if you later determine that you did not do it correctly). Prof. Kokorowski will make every effort to preview maps that are turned in early, leaving assignment comments and/or annotations on your map if anything needs your attention. Your submission will be graded according to the attached rubric. Detailed feedback will be provided as assignment comments and/or annotations on your map. There is no time limit.  Correcting and Labeling Your Map: After you have submitted your rough draft map in Lab 2 Part 1, open the Plate Boundaries Key (JPG file). This map shows the correct location of the plate boundaries. Correct your map as needed (leave your rough draft lines for comparison). Pay close attention to the locations of island chains and narrow seas, as these provide evidence of plate boundaries. Details are important! Label the plates. This is now your plate boundaries map. Color-Code Plate Boundary Types: Based on the features that are present at each plate boundary (from the maps in Lab 2 Part 1), use your colored pencils (or digital pen) to color-code the major types of plate boundaries: Divergent (red), Transform (blue), and Convergent (yellow).  If you don't have these colors, you can use those that you have on hand and include a legend for the meaning of the colors. You can also use the Plate Boundaries Map (JPG file) to assist you. You don't need to include the offsets in the mid-ocean ridge system that are transform faults. You can consider the mid-ocean ridges as divergent plate boundaries since this is where seafloor spreading occurs.
