Rationale: One national health challenge we chose to focus on is the growing mental health crisis and burnout among healthcare workers. We chose this topic because many of us have personally experienced the emotional toll of the job and have witnessed its impact on our colleagues. Long hours, emotional strain, staffing shortages, and high patient demands are pushing nurses and providers to their limits. This issue is critically important because it affects patient safety, job satisfaction, and workforce retention. When caregivers are burned out, the quality of care declines, and team morale suffers. We believe it's not enough to simply recognize burnout because we need real, actionable support systems. This includes access to mental health resources, protected breaks, safe staffing levels, and a workplace culture that doesn’t normalize exhaustion. We aim to become leaders who advocate for emotional wellness and challenge systems that fail to support frontline workers. We have seen far too many talented nurses leave the profession due to burnout and lack of support.
