In this module, you have deepened your understanding of how health policy is made, how policy change takes place, and how to advocate for change. One of your readings, Nurse Advocacy: Adopting a Health in All Policies Approach, argues that in order to promote health, nurses must adopt a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to advocacy. The HiAP approach includes attention to social determinants of health such as educational opportunity, wages, and the working conditions of the general public. This discussion gives you the opportunity to discuss and debate the HiAP approach to the policy advocacy of nurses. Instructions Re-read the article linked above. Make an argument for or against the HiAP approach to nurse advocacy. Do you believe that nurses should adopt the HiAP approach to advocacy, or should they focus their policy advocacy more narrowly on issues directly related to health and healthcare? Why do you hold this position? In your argument, make sure to demonstrate a realistic understanding of how policy is made and how you would use specifically described strategies for influencing health policy development.
