In considering employment opportunities following certification, advanced practice nurses have a wide range of roles available, including primary care, specialty care, urgent care, leadership, and clinical education. Because I currently serve as the Educator for Ambulatory Care within my organization, I have a unique advantage in understanding system needs, training workflows, and interdisciplinary collaboration. My current role involves supporting more than 30 ambulatory practices, orienting new nursing staff, and designing competency?based training programs, all of which strengthen both clinical and leadership skills. At this time, my position is not dependent upon nurse practitioner certification; however, obtaining certification expands my options significantly. As I continue discerning whether to transition into direct patient care as an NP or remain in the educational track, I’m grateful for a supportive leadership team that encourages both career pathways. Should I decide to pursue NP practice, I plan to explore opportunities within my current health system as well as submit my CV to three potential employers: a local primary care network, an outpatient specialty clinic, and a community health center. Each offers strong interdisciplinary teams and opportunities for continued professional growth. I remain open and prayerful about the direction that aligns best with my long?term goals.
