Finish the First writing, the DISCUSSION is from classmate, briefly reply. 1. PURPOSE This discussion examines innovation and its unforeseen consequences, encouraging you to critically analyze the complexities of technological advancements. By engaging with course readings and personal experiences, you will explore the ethical, strategic, and unpredictable nature of innovation. OBJECTIVES By participating in this discussion, you will: Evaluate different perspectives on innovation as an outcome, process, and mindset. Analyze tradeoffs and ethical considerations in technological advancement. Reflect on the limits of predicting innovation’s long-term impact. Engage in peer discussion to broaden your understanding. INSTRUCTIONS Discussion Topics (Choose One for Your Initial Post) Innovation as Outcome, Process, and Mindset – Kahn describes innovation as a combination of outcome, process, and mindset. Beyond influencing how organizations innovate, how do these factors shape ethical considerations and responsible decision-making? Can you provide an example of an organization that either failed to innovate or did so irresponsibly? Tradeoffs in Technological Innovation – Drucker emphasizes that technological advancements require careful evaluation of tradeoffs and moral implications. How do his insights apply to current discussions on Artificial Intelligence, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI? The Limits of Predicting Innovation’s Impact – Drucker warns that trusting experts to predict technology’s effects is "hubris." Was he right? Consider examples such as algorithmic decision-making or social media’s influence—do they support or challenge his perspective? DELIVERABLES Initial Post: Choose one topic and provide a well-supported response. Use examples, research, or personal experience to strengthen your argument. Peer Response: Reply to at least one classmate who chose a different topic than yours. Your response should add depth—ask a question, challenge their view, or offer a different perspective. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Post your response early to allow for meaningful discussion. Ensure your writing is clear, professional, and well-supported. Cite sources in APA 7th edition format, if applicable. Refer to the Course Summary for deadlines. Looking forward to your insights! Technical Support Need help using Canvas Discussions? If so, please review the following guide: Canvas Student Guide - Discussions DISCUSSION : Tradeoffs in Technological Innovation: For this week’s readings Drucker’s “The Discipline of Innovation” article connects to the intersection in which we are currently at with Language Learning Models (LLMs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), as he states with innovation we must do three things to ensure we obtain the results in which we are seeking: “1) Focus on the mission, 2) Define the results we are after, and 3) Assess what we’re doing and how we are doing it.” (Drucker, 1998). With the emergence of AI and LLMs in the professional and personal realm, these new innovations have started a trend of unintended results in which they were never meant to be used for. For example the emergence of AI has started a new trend of cyber crime and disinformation meant to spread false/fake information to influence users on the internet to make decisions. As recently as 2023, the number of AI-generated fake news sites has increased tenfold, yet there remain few effective safeguards to protect internet users (Shin, 2025). Beyond the digital media landscape, AI is also being exploited for corporate fraud. Criminals now use deepfake technology to create convincing images, videos, and even voicemails of CEOs, enabling them to infiltrate organizational systems and deceive employees into granting unauthorized access(Kniepmann & Sang, 2024). The emergence of AI and LLMs has sparked an emergence of fraud and deception, one in which we can no longer fully trust the internet, the media we consume, or even the phone calls and text messages we receive. To apply Peter Drucker’s insight on innovation, we must limit and regulate these tools for constructive purposes to ensure that their development serves their intended goals. Currently, there is a proposed measure in the United States that would prevent individual states from regulating AI, which I believe would be a critical mistake. Proper regulation, even if robust, does not slow down innovation but rather it helps ensure that new technologies do not create unforeseen risks or exacerbate existing issues in our society.
