essay describe your creative project, the historical context, and how it encapsulates your research, and relate it to key concepts in the course Minimum of THREE primary sources (or more). - Minimum of THREE secondary sources (or more), consisting of scholarly books, book chapters, or articles (in addition to the documentary, “Influenza 1918”) base the paper around Milton Antiseptic. This is the info i have so far:  For my project I made a health poster that could have been displayed in the 1900 outside of stores or on bulletin boards promoting a popular germicide called Milton. I chose this remedy because I noticed how heavily advertised it was and was curious to see if it really did what people believed it did. I saw posters talking about how this antiseptic could be used to rinse your mouth, to snuff up your nose, for more sick remedies but then also to bleach and remove stains from your clothes, clean surfaces and other uses regarding cleaning germs in the home. It was also advertised to keep food fresh and kill cooking smells and also kill vermin and rats.  It interested me how people were okay with ingesting chemicals that they also then used to  clean their houses.  When I see these ads, I would consider it to just be a way to profit off of people's fears of the germs, and that's why they made it seem like this product was able to do it all. During this time, it is also seen that milton was heavily benefitting from the disease becasue medical officials were also broadcasting the sale of this product. I saw an article claiming that 94% of australian maternity hospitals used Milton to sterilize baby bottles and beds, so it goes to show how wide spread the milton industry was and also supports the idea that they cared more about selling the product, than its actual effect on health and the influenza.  Oringally Milton was meant for cleaning, but amid the flu, it started to be trademarked as a medicine as well, to help cleanse people of the disease.  The economical perspective i see is that this disease was killing so many people, it convinced them to trust these big brands and from a business standpoint, people were okay with profiting off of peoples fears, so they continued to advertise products even if they didnt actually cure the disease.  Sodium hypochlorite which is the active ingredient found in Milton Sterilising Fluid can also be used for the treatment of skin infections such as eczema and impetigo.
