Chapter 1 CHOOSE ANY TWO QUESTIONS: After viewing the video clips about what men say and what women want, how much do you agree or disagree with these views? How are these views shaped? Compare the views presented in this video to the ideas views presented in the WAP video (there's a link to the WAP video in the Articles and Video Clips page). What do the textbook authors mean by “sexual intelligence?” Be sure to discuss the four components as defined in the text. Do you agree with this definition? Give examples of specific psychological, scientific, and social changes within the last century that have affected sexual values and behavior in today’s society and assess their impact. How have the internet and social media shaped sexual expression during the last decade? Chapter 2 ALL REQUIRED: What is your reaction to the Why Have Sex study? When you took the test, did your results match the results of the survey? Was there anything that surprised you about your results? This study was initially conducted as an online survey, what does the text say about the pros and cons of sex research in Cyberspace? What is sexology? What are its goals? Do you agree with those goals? Think about a study you would like to conduct. Which method of research would you be most likely to use: The methods used by Masters and Johnson or the method used by Kinsey, or some other method mentioned in the chapter? Briefly describe what your study would be it using the information found in Chapter 2. Read at least one student discussion, commenting on whether or not you agree with their chosen research method and why. Chapter 3 CHOOSE ANY TWO QUESTIONS: According to the Anatomy of Sex video, what role has evolution played in mate selection? How has media shaped beauty standards in men and women? How has the definition of "womanhood" changed in your lifetime, or has it? List the reasons why women should perform a genital self-exam. Post is insightful and related to discussion topic. Post is insightful, related to discussion topic and contributes to a new understanding of the topic. Expression within the post 8 points Does not clearly express opinions or ideas. Minimal expression of opinions or ideas. Opinions and ideas are stated clearly but lacks depth and/or detail. Expresses opinions and ideas in a clear and concise manner demonstrating depth of understanding. Reference to assigned material 9 points No reference to assigned material. Minimal reference to assigned material; all sources may not be referenced. Reference to all assigned material is seen throughout post. You must cite the Crooks & Baur text as source material both in the body of your responses as well as at the end. (6-9 points) Discussion cites additional scholarly sources that provide greater depth of understanding. If additional scholarly resources are used, you must cite them within the body of your responses and at the end of the entire submission. Scholarly does not mean Wikipedia of the first item that shows up on a Google Search. Scholarly does mean academic journals or well-researched informational sites like The Guttmacher InstituteLinks to an external site. Scholarship 9 points No evidence of cognitive processing of course material or analyzing own experience through the lens of assigned material. Minimal cognitive processing of assigned material is evident. Discussion is thoughtful synthesizing own experience with assigned material. You must cite the Crooks & Baur text as source material both in the body of your responses as well as at the end. (6-9 points) Discussion is thoughtful and stimulating reflecting a synthesis of course material, additional scholarly material, and own experience. If additional scholarly resources are used, you must cite them within the body of your responses and at the end of the entire submission. Scholarly does not mean Wikipedia of the first item that shows up on a Google Search. Scholarly does mean academic journals or well-researched informational sites like The Guttmacher InstituteLinks to an external site. Evidence 8 points Either no evidence is provided for any response or there are numerous factual mistakes, omissions, or oversimplifications. Not enough evidence is provided to support most of the responses. The evidence is incomplete, incorrect, or oversimplified. Provides necessary evidence to support most responses, but not all. The importance/relevance of some evidence presented may not be totally clear. Provides compelling and accurate evidence in answering all questions. The importance/ relevance of all pieces of evidence are clearly stated. There are no gaps in reasoning—i.e., the reader does not need to assume anything or do additional research to accept. Total: 58 points
