Directions: The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your knowledge of the required course material. Outside sources should not be used. The response to each question needs to be 2-3 well-developed paragraphs in length (250-350 words) and written essentially in your own words. However, at least two appropriate direct quotes from required course material must be integrated into each question’s response. Finally, be sure to use ample supporting examples and evidence from the required course material. Please use the Chicago Style Manual for all in-text citations, references page, and other document formatting. The assignment will be graded using the associated rubric posted in Canvas. Use of AI: The use of AI chatbots (such as ChatGPT, Jasper, or Perplexity) is strictly prohibited for this assignment. Any attempt to use AI including generating ideas, paraphrasing, or creating any content will be considered a violation of Lynn University’s Academic Integrity policy and will be reported to the academic dean. The only exception is the use of Grammarly for basic grammar, syntax, and punctuation editing. Reminder: Your assignment will automatically be sent to Turnitin when you submit it in Canvas. Therefore, I highly recommend that you submit it a day or two early to determine if all material has been properly cited. This will provide time for you to correct any citation errors that may occur. 1. UDHR & Historical Development of Global Human Rights: Does it matter that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is not legally binding? What has it contributed to the protection and promotion of global human rights? Finally, how does the UDHR reflect or exemplify the historical development of the various “generations” of human rights as presented by Weston? Please use Chapter 1 in the Global Human Rights text, including the UDHR, and the Weston reading in your response. 2. Civil/Political Rights: The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) has a strong emphasis on judicial process rights as a subset of civil and political rights. What historical events or situations might have motivated the member states of the UN to emphasize such rights in the ICCPR? Please use Chapter 2 of the Global Human Rights text, including details from the ICCPR, in your response. (Recall that the ‘Measure of a Man” and “The Drumhead” Star Trek episodes illustrate various examples of due process rights.) 3. Economic/Social/Cultural Rights & Civil/Political Rights: Describe the key points of Eide’s argument about the relationship between economic/social/cultural and civil/political rights. Then, thoroughly explain why you agree or disagree with his argument. Your response needs to include specific details from Eide’s article, Global Human Rights Chapter 3, and either the MDGs or SDGs.
