Design a closed/time-limited group of your choosing. Include the following in your write-up: Type of group (therapy, psychoeducational, task-oriented, etc.); population; setting; topic/issue of the group; how long will it last – number of weeks/months; how often will it meet; number of participants in your group. Legal and ethical considerations of the group. The short- and long-term goals of your group – consider what participants will gain from group.  List the rules for your group and how you will decide on which ones to include. Include: back-ground on your chosen population; what research shows about how groups benefit your chosen population (you must reference at least one source); why you chose this group; your interest in working with your chosen population, etc. Consider Suggestions for Writing a Proposal for a Group. Include: screening questions as an appendix and how this information will help you to better understand the members; who you will include and whom might you exclude and why; an opening statement of how you would begin your group to build rapport and the therapeutic container; rapport building exercise(s).  Discuss your thoughts on working with difficult clients and how you might address some issues when they arise in your group.  Include how your values could impact the group and explain why. Include: which theoretical orientation(s) you will use and how the theory/theories work best with the group you will be running.  Also discuss drawbacks of your theory(s).  Include some research to support your chosen theory/theories.  You must reference at least one source. Discuss at least 3 Therapeutic Factors of a Group (Yalom, Chapters. 1-3 ) and how you will build, encourage and support these in your group members.  You can include quotes and examples of your ideas and philosophy from various sources. (Be sure to include a proper reference page with your proposal.) Explain your understanding of an Informed Consent and confidentiality and its limits.  We will discuss details in class.  You should also refer to Yalom Appendix for more information. Include: an Informed Consent statement specific to your group and issues you would address in this statement as an appendix.  Include a mock flier or brochure advertising your group.
