Description PLEASE REWRITE THIS DISCUSSION POST TO ENSURE ITS NOT AI GENERATED AND WILL PASS THE TURNIT SYSTEM!!! To the Editor, Cancer is a disease that has touched many lives, but did you know that some cancers can be prevented just by making healthier choices? While some people may inherit a higher risk of cancer from their family, many cancers are actually caused by things we’re exposed to in our everyday environment. One of the biggest causes of cancer is smoking. Cigarettes have chemicals in them—called carcinogens—that can damage the DNA inside our cells. When that damage builds up, it can cause cells to grow out of control and form a lump or tumor. This is how cancer can start. According to the American Cancer Society (2019), smoking is linked to about 30% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. The good news is that there are many treatments available, like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, which help remove or kill cancer cells. And scientists are always finding better ways to treat it. One exciting treatment is called immunotherapy, which helps your own immune system find and destroy cancer cells—kind of like turning your body into a cancer-fighting superhero (Wayne, 2017). But the best thing we can do is try to prevent cancer before it starts. Avoiding tobacco, eating more fruits and vegetables, getting regular exercise, and protecting your skin from too much sun can all help lower your risk. We can’t control everything, but we can make smart choices that help us live longer, healthier lives. References American Cancer Society. (2019).
