Description Dq 1 nickolas In reflecting on our previous topic's discussion regarding the transitional experiences of international students newly arrived in the United States for college, I raise two potential research questions: How do international students describe their academic and social adjustment during their initial semester? And what challenges do they encounter in adapting to the cultural and educational environment, what strategies do they employ to overcome these challenges? These questions are designed to investigate the lived experiences of international students, capturing both the obstacles they face and the resilience strategies they develop. With a focus on personal narratives, research can provide insight into their adaptation processes, which are often overlooked in quantitative studies (Eigege et al., 2022). A qualitative exploration can reveal patterns and themes that inform support services and policy development to enhance the international student experience.In order to properly plan this study, it must meet an acceptable degree of feasibility. The recruitment of a diverse sample size of international students is essential to ensure varied perspectives, but this requires navigating potential language barriers and cultural sensitivities (Fennel, 2020). Establishing trust is also a crucial part; participants must feel comfortable sharing their experiences without fear of judgment or repercussion (Woodend & Arthur, 2022). Scheduling interviews must accommodate students' academic commitments and time zone differences, especially if interviews are conducted remotely (Eigege et al., 2020). A qualitative study designed from the phenomenons I previously identified also necessitates ethical considerations. Confidentiality and informed consent is vital, given the personal nature of the information shared (Thompson et al., 2023). Researchers involved must also be culturally competent, recognizing and respecting the diverse backgrounds of participants (Fennel, 2020; Woodend & Arthur, 2022). Employing open-ended interview questions can encourage detailed responses which allows students to express their thoughts and feelings freely, which is better for researcher interpretation.
