The Ethics and Legality of Abortion: An Analysis of Circumstances in Which it Should be Permitted Keyonna V Brown 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving & PHI-105 Beverly Santelli, Tamla Johnson, Meghan Arnold 07/16/23 The Ethics and Legality of Abortion: An Analysis of Circumstances in Which it Should be Permitted Abortion has long been the focus of contentious discussions and debates that put opponents of different ethical philosophies against one another. It causes challenging considerations in connection to the right of choosing the period and method of having children together with the moral concerns linked to fetus abortion. The pro-life movement shields the idea of life sanctity founded on conception, while at the same time, the pro-choice one countersigns the freedom of women in making their own decisions regarding their bodies. Based on these ideologies, it is indispensable to account for the conditions under which abortion must be permitted, notwithstanding it is a complicated issue. Women must have similar rights as men in any circumstance, conferring to pro-choice advocates. They emphasize that an individual's liberties and opportunities should not be contingent on their gender identity. Women ought equally to access vocational, political, social, and economic (Marks, 2022). In this case, women having the plight of deciding on aborting their pregnancies for purposes of career pursuit to the possible fullest extent have not broken any law. Women's moral rights are violated when the ability to choose their reproductive options is denied to them. Women's autonomy and agency as human beings are not recognized when they are compared to simple receptacles for carrying a kid (Rye & Underhill, 2020). Morally, women are authorized to lead the lives of their choosing and be in control of the shape their bodies take. Furthermore, pro-choice proponents contend that it might be dangerous to bring a child to term against one's will. Abortion can be a safer option in situations where health issues could cause a child to suffer. It is morally wrong to make a woman give birth to a kid who may have serious health problems or experience permanent misery. The potential child's welfare must be taken into account, and if abortion is the most effective way to stop needless suffering, it must be made available (Marks, 2022). In addition to these justifications, giving women the option of abortion can shield them from the mental pain caused by negligent spouses. When a man refuses to accept responsibility for his actions, women shouldn't be forced to carry the load by themselves. Abortion can let women make decisions based on their own needs while also preventing further trauma (WHO, 2014). In addition, if a woman is compelled against her choice to give birth by society or the government, she may grow bitter and even hateful toward the kid (Quirico et al., 2022). Offering a solution that prevents the possibility of strained relationships between mothers and children is more compassionate. The pro-life viewpoint contends that the unborn child's right to life overrides the bearer's decision to have an abortion. They hold the view that only a higher power has the power to determine a person's fate. They emphasize the inherent worth of life and the capacity of a kid to make a meaningful contribution to society, regardless of their upbringing or difficulties (Marecek, 2019). History has produced many notable individuals who rose from modest origins, demonstrating that a child's upbringing should not define their value or potential influence. In a nutshell, in light of the controversy surrounding abortion, I am adamant that it is inappropriate unless the fetus seriously jeopardizes the mother's life. Any arguments intending to support abortion basing their emphasis on the rights of women to thwart siring of children who are prone to suffering, and defend the autonomy of women seem more persuasive. The viewpoint of pro-life cannot be disregarded since it stresses life’s sanctity and the capability of every person to make positive contributions. The sophistication of the issue must be accredited, and each abortion case's actual circumstances necessity being properly considered. In the end, the choice should put women's liberty and well-being first while also honoring the worth of life. References Marecek, J. (2019). Abortion In Context (pp. 191-204).
