Description Analyzing an Historical Debate For this assignment, you will analyze an historical debate over the Black Death. I have provided articles that you must use for this paper (other sources will not be accepted). I have posted a file below this one with links to the articles YOU NEED TO SELECT 2 ARTICLES ON YOUR TOPIC WHERE THE AUTHOR'S ARE ARGUING DIFFERENT THESES. Please note, that you may not find two complete opposite articles (for example, no historian will argue the Black Death did not happen), but each article has a different thesis or specific point that the author is trying to prove. Using the example above, while no author will argue that the Black Death did not happen, they will argue about why the 1340s-1350s version of the Bubonic plague was worse than other outbreaks. There have been periodic outbreaks of bubonic place from ancient Roman times onwards (according to USA Today, an Oregon man had a confirmed case in Feb. 2024), but rarely was the disease so wide-spread or so devastating as in the mid-1300s. This is not primarily a descriptive paper. It is an analysis of how authors build their arguments. INSTRUCTIONS:  You will use those 2 articles to write your paper. In that paper, you need to address the following questions:  Part I. Introduction: (10%) Describe in general the issue. (For example, you may analyze the importance of this issue in terms of to the culture, economics, political system, or social structure at the time.) Part II. Historical Debate: (40%) - - Please make certain you identify each article by title or author's name when you discuss it. If I cannot tell which article you are discussing, I cannot tell if you have analyzed it correctly (HINT, the authors are not your friends so you should refer to them by full name or formal last name only -- never call them by their first names)  Read two perspectives (articles) on this argument from different sides, and describe the authors’ perspectives on this topic: (This assignment is not an article review, however, you need to demonstrate that you understand the readings in order to address the application questions). After reading the articles, what were the authors' thesis? What evidence did the authors use to support those theses? Does the evidence support his or her thesis? Did the author(s) of the readings demonstrate an understanding of important elements of the culture’s history, values, politics, beliefs, or practices at the time of the issue? How or how not? Which author created the clearer argument? Why did you feel that argument is clearer? Part III. Conclusion (30%) How did the readings change the way in which you understood the subject? How might your own background influence your perspective on this issue? Provide examples.
