Description 1. Review Your Goals: Revisit the goals you set for your job shadow experience in the previous module. Ensure that you discuss and aim to meet these goals with the person you shadow. GOALS -(I am wanting to gain the knowledge of the day to day responsibilities of the role, assess whether the career path will align to my interest and skills, and having firsthand knowledge about a job in which I lack prior experience in) I picked to job shadow a special education teacher her name is Shelley Fisher. She works at Delta Elementary School in Bastrop, LA. 2.Research Your Career Interests: Provide general information about your career field of interest using an infographic (only for this section). Include the following: What is the nature of the work/occupation? What are the working conditions? What is the employment outlook and average salary? What training and qualifications are necessary? 3.CONDUCT AN INTERVIEW: After your job shadow, interview the contact person you observed and write a summary of that interview including this information: What is their degree, training, and certifications? How did they become interested in this field? Why did they choose this career? What personality traits are important for this job? What technical knowledge is essential? What is a typical day like for them? What are the busiest times of year? Do they take work home? How do they spend their time daily? Do they supervise others? How do they use their training in their role? (e.g., a pharmacist using chemistry or math for dosages) What are the most important job skills (both technical and soft skills) for success in this role? How do they continue their training and professional development? What do they enjoy most about their job? What personal satisfaction do they gain? What advice would they give to someone interested in this career? What changes do they foresee in the field in the next 5-10 years? 4.WRITE-UP OF JOB SHADOWING: Write up your job shadow observation: Use these resources as guides - Job Shadow and summarize: How to organize your job shadow write-up; Include these topics : Who you shadowed, when it took place, and a brief description of what you observed. Specific work activities you observed, including times and activities (e.g., "From 9-10 AM, I observed a staff meeting, and from 10:30-11:30 AM, I toured the facility"). The skills you observed the professional using while completing their tasks. 5.Personal Observations/Reflection/Conclusions: I am looking for real, true reflection here! Reflect on what you liked about the job and any aspects that might make you hesitate to pursue this career. What did you learn that you didn't know before? What was the atmosphere like in the workplace? How did workers interact? Was it a collaborative or independent environment? Was it quiet or bustling? What surprised you most about the experience? Did the job shadowing impact your career goals? 6. THANK YOU NOTE: Write a thank you note to theprofessional you shadowed. The note should be one page, thanking them for their time and mentioning something specific you learned or enjoyed about the experience. 7.ATTACH: Attach your the interview questions BONUS CHALLENGE: Take your findings from your job shadow and interview and create a Visual Career Pathway Map. This map should visually demonstrate the steps, qualifications and progression needed to enter and succeed in your chosen field.
