Dear Prospective Doctoral Student, It is a pleasure to hear about your interest in the Doctoral Programs here in the School of Business at Liberty University. This is a significant step in your academic journey, and as a fellow doctoral candidate myself, I am writing to share some advice and factors to help guide you in the decision-making process, in addition, throughout your journey. Prior to enrolment, make sure to research your interests and that they algin with the degree program. A doctoral program is a significant time commitment, so make sure the program and curriculum expectations will balance with any personal and professional obligations. Without reviewing the programs, the expectations can be misleading, transparency and understanding is key. As time progresses in your doctoral journey, research will become a significant aspect of the program, so understand this is a significant time commitment, but don't get discouraged! Reflect on what and why you are deciding to make this next step. Reflect on how the programs align with your long-term personal and professional career goals. A doctoral degree is typically geared towards those interested in academia or high-level industry research roles. If this decision has current or potential benefit, go for it. Lastly, it is important to consider the cost of the program and any potential funding opportunities that could be available to you such as scholarships, grants. Financing is an important part to completing this program. Not preparing financial funding, it will allow you to not stress on the monetary aspect, and to focus on your studies through the journey. While this is a lot of information, there are many avenues to complete the necessary research to answer the above questions. As you consider these programs, reach out and network! Speak with current students and alumni as they can provide firsthand insight into the program, faculty and overall experience. Networking will help build necessary relationships with faculty and fellow students. All of these individuals can be valuable resources throughout the program and afterwards. A doctoral program is challenging and requires heigh level of dedication and discipline, and it has proven affective to network and build those mutual partnerships with fellow students and faculty to get the important mentorship to guide you through completion. Those with motivation or more likely to overcome adversity and persist. Socialization can help you increase your drive further and provide to that determination. It is important to keep your self-confidence and motivation up, and remember why you made it this far in the firsts place. Lastly, get organized. This may seem obvious, but the volume and curriculum can vary depending on classes and expectations. Getting organized will help you to keep track of deadlines, assignments, and meetings. This can make sure you manage the workload in life and reduce stress. I hope this information is helpful as you consider your decision. Remember, this is a personal journey and it is important to choose a program that aligns with your goals and interests, and can integrate into your current lifestyle. Best of luck in your journey and never hesitate to reach out for any additional questions or support. Sincerely, Lucianna
