Classicism is a style that originated in the Greco-Roman era, and was revived during the Renaissance. Neoclassical architecture is a revival of classical forms in the 18th and 19th centuries. Neoclassicism was especially popular in The United States of America, and many capitol buildings across the country were built in the classical style in order to visually relate them to the Roman empire and themes of order and control. This discussion asks you to find a building with classical elements in order to demonstrate that the visual syntax of classicism is common, and still all around us. DIRECTIONS: 1. Find an example of a building which is dated after 1700ACE, and which demonstrates strong elements of neoclassical style. 2. Include the Architect (or lead architect), Date, Location, and any important materials. 3. Describe some of the classical elements that are featured in your building.
