Why do you attend college, eat/not eat certain foods, avoid certain activities, celebrate/not celebrate certain holidays, limit certain activities, worship/not worship, etc.?) Week 3 If you could remove the "deviant" label from one behavior in our society, what behavior would you choose? How do you think changing how the behavior is viewed will benefit society as a whole? Week 4 Think about how the COVID-19 virus has affected our society since March 2020. Now consider, why some groups tend to be more adversely affected by the fallout of the pandemic. Why do you think the COVID pandemic continues to be more deadly to some racial and ethnic groups? How can one’s race or ethnicity put them at greater risk of contracting and/or dying from the disease? week 5 1. Should there be a "cut-off" age when it comes to receiving scarce resources such as transplant organs, experimental devices, etc? 2. Should people of a certain age be denied care such as medications, respirators, etc. during a pandemic? Week 6 Most of us are aware that there are infectious diseases that kill massive numbers of people around the world annually. However, most Americans do not worry about them until they hit close to home. Prior to the reappearance of the Corona Virus in Wuhan, China ( December 2019), the last big “scary” disease to reach the United States was the Ebola Virus (February 2014). After the Corona Virus became a global pandemic and begin to appear in the United States (somewhere between December 2019 and January 2020), the race to find a way to control its spread has shifted into overdrive in the United States. Was the shift in the level of concern and eagerness to create a vaccine due to the fact that the virus was impacting "Us" the United States, the effect of the viruses on the economy, school closures, the ever-growing number of deaths attributed to the virus or a combination of all or some of these factors? Do you think global diseases (Corona Virus, Ebola, SARS, etc,) get more attention and funding when it becomes a problem in "important" countries such as the United States or Europe? What do you think was the biggest motivator for the United States to fast-track a vaccine for the Corona Virus? Week 7 Question(s):1. What comes to mind when you hear that someone is living in poverty? What do you imagine their lives to be like?2. How does living in poverty in the U.S. differ from living in poverty in some other countries? Week 8 Question(s):1. Do you think that all states should make it possible for all students to attend a 2-year college (for 2 years only) TUITION free? Why or why not?2. Would you favor school loan forgiveness if the graduate was required to perform a designated number of volunteer hours or work in a designated field for a specified number of years?
