Assignment: Most of us can vividly remember when we first encountered an environment that didn't include our parent(s) or close family members. Think back to an event that marked the first "real" separation from family. Once you were placed in that situation, how did the norms you were used to suddenly change? Who was in charge and who had the authority to control your behavior? In one (1) page of written text, explain how you were socialized to behave in your new environment. In your submission, address the following questions: 1) What experience are you sharing? Was the "culture" you experienced once away from home the same as at home? 2) How long did it take for you to become socialized (familiar and comfortable) with your new routine? 3) Have you used the lessons you learned during this socialization experience to help you become socialized in other situations?
