As we look at competition we need to remember there are many ways to form a competitive position. Consider the article 'Big Chains Put a Lock in First Run Movies." There are three primary actors in this article 1) a small new independent theater, 2) large established theater chains, and 3) movie distributors (and producers). You should be able to discern how the established theater chains are leveraging practice of 'clearance' to produce supplier power and control the market.
