1. for Sunday Hi. Dr Groth and class, Early modern philosophers and other early contributors helped the development of psychology and promoting our current understanding of theoretical developments in a myriad of ways. Through their thought processes and contributions, a framework was laid out which is still very much in use today in the basis and foundation of psychology and in many psychological theories. Wilhelm Wundt, as an example, helped make psychology known more as an actualized science than as a philosophy. Philosophy is a great starting place for thinking about abstract ideas and thought, but the psychology is the application of those thoughts (Wertheimer and Puente, 2020). Additionally, abstract thought which still applies to humanistic psychology and other aspects of our field such as the mind-body problem as discussed by Aristotle and Rene Descartes (Benjamin, 2019), was originally introduced here. In honoring these individuals, we also understand where the basis of some of our current psychological theories come from. References: Benjamin, L. T. (2019). A Brief History of Modern Psychology (3rd ed.). John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Wertheimer, M., & Puente, A. E. (2020). A Brief History of Psychology. (6th ed.). Rou 2 The contributions of early philosophers still to date play a vital role in the approach to any in-depth studying of the human psyche. The philosophical ideas and approaches to studying the human psyche by Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle have remained significant and deeply rooted in modern psychology. As these philosophers moved to differentiate the human body from the mind and spirit, the field of psychology was born as a process of studying the bilateral affects the brain and mind had on the body physiologically. The nature of how the mind and body influenced each other has remained a metaphysical debate but also serves as the foundation of modern psychology as well as the creation of medications used to treat psychological conditions. Nevertheless, these new metaphysics provided a potential object of knowledge that was quite different from Aristotelian psyche, namely, the embodied individual human mind. Systematized knowledge pertaining to this new object would eventually provide a focus for a new discipline, psychology (Danziger, 2013). While modern philosophers and psychologist may stand firmly on scientific laws of physics, my belief is that you can't study one theory without considering the other. With every new framework of acquiring new knowledge that presented over past centuries, spirituality and the affects of the mind on the body have remained relevant. Danziger, K. (2013).
