Use of literature (this refers to the number and quality of sources used) ? Creativity, innovativeness and thinking out of the box DETAILED DESCRIPTION Students will be given a real-life life scenario where they need to solve one of the daily concerns of a case company in terms of solving some specific questions related to contemporary supply chain issues. Students will be arranged in several groups and each group will serve as a tentative consultancy company that will have to solve the challenges assigned to them. Each group will solve the same challenges but fo for a different company. The guidelines Assessment Handout: Code Module Title 1 ? Guideline 1: Resit students may work on the same company/challenge assigned by the instructor but they need to provide a new report. For this new report students need to take into consideration the initial feedback received. Submitting the same assignment is not acceptable. All guidelines below need to be tackled. ? Guideline 2: You need to solve the challenge of understanding the supply chain required by the case company and of proposing solution alternatives and strategies for that specific challenge that your group was assigned. You will do this through the following stages: 3.1 Literature review in general about the specific challenge (to understand what this has to deal with). Here you need to think broadly. 3.2 Overview of the problem on hand and understanding of the main causes that lead to this problem. 3.3 Overview of the solution alternatives with a thorough discussion of benefits and drawbacks of each alternative. 3.4 Critical discussion and suggestions on how the problem can be solved (here you can be as creative and innovative as you wish – try to find for example what other companies that deal with similar products/processes do, or try to identify supply chain performance boosters. In any case all your statements must be supported by proper references). Try to identify what other key resource efficiency practices would be useful to improve the performance. ? Guideline 3: Emphasis must be given on solution approaches, critical analysis and discussion. Review of literature – References The analysis should be based on literature review of papers published in academic journals and practitioner’s journals, as well as on electronic sources that have been agreed with the lecturer. Students are expected to have a minimum of 10 references, with a minimum of 7 from academic journals. SUBMISSION Students are expected to submit a final report which should be a typed hardbound work of 2000 words (excluding tables, figures, graphs and appendices). Reports that exceed the word limit by 10% will be penalised by a 10% reduction in mark. In case the word limit has been exceeded by more than 20%, the report will get a mark of 0. Following the guidelines of the “Students Handbook”, reports should be written using the Century Gothic font at a size of 10 and with 1.5 spacing between lines. There should be clear spacing between paragraphs, sections and subsections. The assignment must have a Departmental cover sheet attached. In each report you should include in your cover page a word count of the main body and conclusion. References – you must utilise the Harvard Referencing System (SEE LINK PROVIDED) https://subjectguides.york.ac.uk/referencing-style-guides/harvard Students are expected to follow the following report structure: ? Title ? Executive summary ? Table of Contents ? Introduction ? Problem Definition and Literature review on the specific challenge ? Solution Alternatives ? Discussion/ recommendations ? Here you include your own proposal based on the literature (critical analysis) on how the key challenge should be handled. ? Conclusions ? References ? Appendices (optional) (Appendices must not exceed 25% of the actual report ) Late Submission Policy: All work submitted late, without an approved claim of extension or exceptional circumstances, will result in a 10 marks reduction for each day that the work is late, up to a total of five days, including weekends and bank holidays. As part of a standard procedure for CW-based units, students may be requested to participate in an oral exam (VIva Voce). Prior to releasing the marks that you achieved in the CW(s) that you submitted, the Assessment Handout: Code Module Title 2 department will select a number of students randomly and will inform them in advance about the Viva. NOTE This piece of assessment should be completed and submitted by the student (or group of students in group work) without assistance from or communication with another person either external or fellow student (outside the group). All sentences or passages cited in the assignment from other people's work should be specifically acknowledged by complete and accurate reference to the author, work and page(s). Failure to abide by the above regulation constitutes use of unfair means (collusion, plagiarism etc.) and will result in a fail mark for this work. It might also invoke disciplinary actions. It is at the instructor’s discretion to conduct an oral examination, which will result in the award of the final grade for that particular piece of assessment. TURN IT IN REQUIREMENT This piece of assessment is required to be submitted to turnitin plagiarism detection software at: www.turnitin.com at a date no later than the submission date.
